First Aid Squad's Wetdown Makes a Big Splash

Community gathers to christen new rescue truck, support vehicle.

Members of the community gathered at the West Essex First Aid Squad Saturday evening to christen the department's rescue truck and support vehicle.

The seven-hour event, which featured food on the grill, plenty of beverages and music by DJs Thomas King and Mike Luker, was attended by the squad's members and families, community members of all ages as well as West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta.

"This is a party for our new equipment," Jen May said. The EMT has been with the squad for two years and assisted with Saturday's 50/50 drawing.

People chatted and ate in the shade, while children lined up and watched the lot's entrance, well aware of what was coming.

The little ones erupted in cheers at the arrival of fire engines. The fire fighters hopped out of their vehicles as the children chanted, "Wa-ter! Wa-ter!"
