On the article BOE Spoke About Us With 'Disdain and Reproach,' Teacher Says

Carolyn Maynard-Parisi
11:04 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2013
Michael, this is a report of what occurred in one part of a 4+ hour BOE meeting - hence, "reporting." I have included quotes from both the teachers and Ms. Karriem and linked to my previous article that detailed exactly what Ms. Karriem said in the last meeting that seemed to so upset these teachers. I will also write several more articles based on issues discussed last night, including the capital plan. Some will be enhanced by more detailed interviews with other board members or district staff, with whom I am in regular contact, as well as by analyzing the district's documents, presentations and plans.
I understand that you are frequently frustrated by my, or by Patch's, reporting. I have asked you numerous times to blog, as you are very involved in school issues. I saw you taking copious notes last night and planned to again ask if you wanted to blog. Please - blog. Either for Patch (we would be happy to have your perspective, as I've said to you before), or on another platform. And continue commenting, the dialogue is important.
Best,
Carolyn -

ReplyBill and Lindsay: nothing is definite until shovels go in the ground (and sometimes even then). But in March, the Kings CEO said this in a Patch interview:
"Someone is going in there, and we'd like it to be us," said Judy Spires, president and CEO of the New Jersey-based corporation..."http://maplewood.patch.com/articles/kings-market-confirms-interest-in-moving

On the article New SOPAC Lease to Erase Debt Takes Next Step

Thanks so much for your constructive criticism, Marian! Andrew is a competent freelancer who did the best he could covering a rather complicated meeting on a topic which has a lot of backstory. In addition, the lease was added last minute to the agenda, we did not have it in our hands at the time of the meeting and the amount of debt is not included in it.
As the brand new editor of SO Patch, I will do my best to wade through the SOPAC situation and report on it as best I can. "Serious journalistic omission" is overstating the case just a bit, though, don't you think?
There will be more follow up articles in the future on this topic. In addition, since you seem to have a lot to say, why don't you consider blogging for Patch on this topic? We would welcome your voice.

On the article Residents Host Meeting to Discuss PO Development

ReplyPatch has written roughly 20 articles EACH on the Post Office redevelopment and the Woman's Club - all carefully sourced, reported and researched. Larry, your comment about "what passes for the local news outlets" stings, but knowing that you are a strong Patch supporter I'm going to charitably assume you are excluding us from that assessment. ;)
Cheers,

Thanks for clarifying, John, I have edited the article to reflect your comments. Apologies if I initially misrepresented the focus of the meeting.

ReplyCitizen: total budget is roughly 2% more (a bit less than that actually) than it was last year, which translates into a 2.5% tax hike for average homeowner.

It's not really supposed to be an article, Elisabeth. It's photos of the event taken by our photographer. The article came before the event. Thanks for commenting.
