PSE&G crews are back in North Caldwell working to restore power after Winter Storm Athena strikes.
After Winter Storm Athena, PSE&G is once again working to restore power to North Caldwell. Although power went back down just as the nor'easter hit, police do not think the new storm caused the power outage. “It was thought that the problem was on Smull (Avenue) but that was only part of the problem,” said North Caldwell Police Chief Mark Deuer. “Initially we thought it would be a quick fix, but the electrical system has been compromised by the hurricane and the problem may be more complex than we thought.” Township officials have been on phone calls with PSE&G all day, he said. Winter Storm Athena has forced a winter weather advisory for much of North Jersey, with the National Weather Service forecasting snow, sleet and rain for Wednesday and a snowy mix for Thursday. Temperatures are expected to be at or just below freezing Wednesday and in the low 40s on Thursday. The winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, and 60mph wind gusts could blow over much of the area. In a previous story regarding Hurricane Sandy and the associated power outages, I commented that North Caldwell was leaving its residents "in the dark." I'm happy to see that the Borough has stepped up its efforts and is reaching out to the community on this website.   more ›
