The Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education also announced the parking lot of Wilson Elementary School will be replaced this summer.
The board of education renewed the district’s board administrator's contract and hired a new technology supervisor at its reorganization meeting. Kerry Keane was unanimously reappointed as board administrator on Monday by the board. Keane began in the district in July 2012. The board administrator’s contract must be renewed annually, so her new contract extends through July 2013. “I want to thank Kerry for her first year,” said board president Mary Davidson. “She’s done a great job.” Don Markese was also appointed as the district’s new supervisor of technology. Markese’s one-year contract will begin on July 1 and he will make $110,000. He is currently the director of technology at Freehold Regional High School in Englishtown. Parking …

Fifth graders participate in non-athletic competition during school lunch.

Students at Wilson Elementary School, West Caldwell, had a new reason for liking lunch this year. Each Friday in December, fifth graders at the school participated in a non-athletic, non-academic one-on-one competition—a Connect Four Competition. Created by principal Scott Keena, the competition is designed to resemble the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, better known as March Madness. Intended to give all students a fair chance at winning a school contest, fifth graders are randomly paired to compete against each other, playing for the best out of three. While Jefferson Elementary School students prepare for their Field Day Friday morning, children at Wilson Elementary School took to the fields on Friday, Oct. 5. Students at the West Caldwell School participated in a variety of races and activities, including parachute games, relay races, throw the rubber chicken and more. The Home and School Association provided orange slices and water for the students, and parents lent a hand coordinating the activities.
