FBI Seeks Robbery Suspect, Borough Explores Walker's Pond Purchase, Boater Found Not Guilty

Local police and the FBI are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a bank in Caldwell just one hour after he attempted to rob a West Orange bank. Caldwell Bank Robbed, Cars Stolen, Codey & Jones Funeral Home Opens

A bank in Caldwell was robbed shortly before closing for the night Thursday, police officials said.  Five out of six cars reported stolen to West Caldwell Police since Jan. 1 were left unlocked with keys inside, according to police. The latest thefts were reported on Monday. A Caldwell funeral home long operated by the Galante family will now share its location with a firm managed by former Gov. Richard Codey and Garrett C. Jones. Talking from her quiet North Caldwell home just 24 hours after standing at the site of a terrorist attack, Randi Mathios said she didn’t know how to feel. The 43-year-old runner was two blocks from the finish line just 10 minutes after completing the Boston Marathon Monday. Former North Caldwell Councilman Elwood “Woody” Walker, considered by many a North Caldwell icon, died Wednesday morning. He was 91. Visitation is Sunday at Dancy Funeral Home in Caldwell. Two hundred residents of a remote village in the Dominican Republic now have a communal bathroom thanks to the efforts of a local teenage girl seeking her Girl Scout Gold Award. Calling it the "best zoo in the state," Gov. Chris Christie officially opened the newest exhibit at the Turtle Back Zoo Tuesday, featuring the largest exhibit in the zoo's history.  The manager of the Tick Tock Diner pleaded not guilty Friday to charges claiming he plotted to murder his uncle, the co-owner of the Clifton landmark. U.S. Army Sgt. Derek McConnell, who was raised in North Caldwell, died Monday at the age of 23, of causes that have yet to be determined. See funeral arrangements for Derek McConnell. Essex County Freeholder Leonard Luciano, who received 40 stitches to his face after crashing into a tree last week in Roseland, was issued a summons for using his cell phone while driving, Roseland Police officials said. Residents are being reminded to keep their cars locked at night after two attempted thefts were reported in the borough Wednesday, officials said. A teenager who ran away from her home in North Caldwell was found by Kinnelon police that was later condemned as an unsafe structure when bath salts and marijuana led to several arrests there. A Paterson man allegedly lied about a carjacking in order to get a quicker response time from police when his minivan was stolen from a Fairifled gas station, officials said. Dough Opens in Caldwell, West Caldwell Plans for Deer Hunt, CWC School Budget Introduced

Chef Ed Simmons realized his longtime dream of owning his own farm-to-table restaurant with the opening of Dough Artisan Pizzeria in Caldwell. Simmons' vision included keeping ingredients American, or better yet, local, whenever possible.
