It would be a great idea if an officer would walk through during the early evenings maybe,,, in the past week between 6 and 8 pm this is what i have seen walking my dog, 4 boys smoking weed, a bunch of high school kids going nuts on the playground like idiots which kept several families from entering with their little kids, 3 boys throwing garbage cans down the hill over the pond, and kids hiding…   more ›

Letter: Vandalism at Grover Cleveland Park

The letter submitted by the Grover Cleveland Park Conservancy states "vandalism is impacting the safety and beauty of the park."

An ongoing problem at Grover Cleveland Park, during the day and night, is the vandalism throughout the park especially in the playground and picnic area. In the playground area the swings, the slide and the synthetic surface are damaged and have been replaced before. The water fountains are often filled with dirt and are currently not functioning. The port-a-johns have been knocked over and the doors have been broken. There have been many light bulbs and globes on the paths of the park that have been broken. Unfortunately, the vandalism is impacting the safety and beauty of the park. The park is closed from 10 p.m. to dawn. The Grover Cleveland Park Conservancy

Kiwanis Oval Target of Vandals

Borough of Caldwell takes measures to deter vandalism, gathering on field.

Caldwell's Borough Council agreed Tuesday night to enact security measures at the Kiwanis Oval, where there have been up to a dozen incidents of vandalism and packs of kids hanging out regularly in recent months. The field, which re-opened after a $1.9 million renovation in the fall of 2010, has become a target for vandals and a gathering place for local children, according to Caldwell Councilman Peter Murray, Chairman of the Public Safety Committee. Murray said Tuesday incidents of vandalism include a hole made in the restrooms which cost $700 to repair and damage to the netting in the batting cages which could cost a couple of thousand dollars to fix. Part of the fencing around the new playground right outside the police department has …

This destruction is more akin to what one may expect in the inner city (having worked the streets of several large Jersey cities) I feel qualified to compare conduct than the town I've grown up in.I would expect this same group are the same ones' that caused the extensive destruction at our Grover Cleveland Park this summer as well.More than 100 kids observed hanging out-I'm wondering if they …   more ›
