Cross Trail Squares Offer Square Dancing Lessons in Caldwell

Free barn dance Thursday kicks off series of introductory lessons at Grover Cleveland Middle School.

The Cross Trail Squares square dancing club is offering a free barn dance Thursday at Grover Cleveland Middle School in Caldwell. The dance begins at 7:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend and learn more about an upcoming series of introductory dance lessons.  Square dancing is done to all kinds of music, including country, rock, classical, folk, Broadway show tunes and more. Participants will learn to follow a pattern of steps created by a live caller. The series of 12 lessons costs $48. Lessons run for three hours on Thursday evenings. A partner is helpful but singles are also welcome at lessons. Thanks for sharing Mary. I have tried square dancing a couple of times and it was a lot of fun and definitely a workout. Caldwell Square Dancing Club to Hold Open House

Cross Trail Squares meet weekly at Grover Cleveland Middle School.

If you enjoy dancing, meeting new people or are a country mouse living in the suburbs, square dancing might be your calling. The Caldwell Cross Trail Squares will hold their next open house on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The square dancing club meets at Grover Cleveland Middle School in Caldwell.   Everyone is welcome to the free barn dance, which introduces potential dancers to square dancing. Singles, as well as couples, are welcome. Thursday night classes from 7:30 to 9 p.m. will begin on Sept. 27 at the middle school.   Wayne Applegate, an experienced caller, will lead the weekly classes. The caller tells the dancers what to do next, and a newcomer can learn various steps in a few months. This is a great opportunity for people to do a fun activity at minimal cost. It provides exercise without going to the gym, reduces stress (you can't think of stressful stuff while focusing on the calls), and you have fun.
