Snow Moves Soccer Match

James Caldwell High School girls varsity soccer to face Glen Rock High School in NJSIAA Group II semifinal.

Due to snowy weather predictions for Tuesday, the James Caldwell High School varsity girls soccer NJSIAA Group II semifinal game has been moved to Wednesday, according to a spokesperson for Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools. The Chiefs, winners of the Group II Section 2 championship, will play Glen Rock High School, Section 1 champs, at 5 p.m., at Millburn High School, 462 Millburn Ave., in Millburn. Chief fans will be wearing white and sitting on the home side. The winner of Wednesday's game will travel to face the winner of the Group II game between the South/Central Sections at TCNJ on Sunday, Dec. 2. at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for the game are $4 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and students. Trinity Girls Named 2012 Soccer League Champs

7/8 girls compete in West Essex Youth Sports Alliance (WEYSA).

Trinity Academy soccer teams enjoyed a successful soccer season. Girls in grades 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 and boys in grades 1/2 and 3/4 participated in the West Essex Youth Sports Alliance (WEYSA), playing against teams from Caldwell, West Caldwell, North Caldwell, Fairfield, Roseland, Essex Fells and Cedar Grove. The teams played a ten game season from mid-September through the end of October, with playoff games during November. The teams enjoyed a fun and competitive season, with several of the Trinity Saints teams placing in top standings for their age groups. The 7/8 girls team won their league with an 8-2 record. They received trophies and a “League Champs” banner will proudly be hung in the Trinity Academy gym. The 1/2 girls team …

Caldwell Middies Celebrate Undefeated Season

The Caldwell-West Caldwell Soccer Club Girls U14 Middies captures Flight 2 Morris Youth County Soccer Association championship.

The Caldwell-West Caldwell (CWC) Soccer Club Girls U14 Middies team had much to celebrate this fall. In addition to commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, the team went undefeated in the Flight 2 Morris Youth County Soccer Association (MYCSA) and became Flight 2 champions. The team—coached by Mary Jo Buoye, Wayne Costigan and UK Elite Trainer Andy Ralphs—had their season delayed by two weeks due to Hurricane Sandy. But they finally secured their last victory and flight championship on Nov. 14. After the victory, Buoye commented, "Job well done this season! Wayne (Costigan) and I can't express how proud we are of all the girls, and how they came together to be flight champions." The team also received praise from CWC Soccer…

Chiefs, Knights Post-Season Action Continues

Knights Field Hockey earns NJSIAA state title. Caldwell soccer teams advance in state tournament. Chiefs and Knights football play first round this weekend.

It’s a big week for post-season high school sports. Time to sport school colors and cheer on the local teams. FIELD HOCKEY West Essex Field Hockey captured the NJSIAA North Jersey Group 2, Section 1 championship Wednesday with a 4-1 win over High Point in North Caldwell. Amanda Cassera scored three goals and Kaitlyn Struss scored once for the Knights. The team finished the season 20-1-0. SOCCER The Caldwell girls soccer team will host Hanover Park in the semi-final round playoff game of the NJSIAA State Tournament Friday. The game will be played at the Kiwanis Oval, Provost Square in Caldwell, at 4 p.m. The winner of Friday’s match will advance to the Group 2 Section 2 championship. Christina Lembo Memorialized in Tearful Candlelight Vigil

Bloomfield High School junior and soccer star was killed late Saturday night in a car crash on Broughton Avenue

The corner of Broughton Avenue and Walter Street fell completely silent Sunday night, as hundreds of Bloomfield High School students paid tribute to one of their own in an awesome display of Bengal pride. Holding candles and bouquets of flowers, some teens loudly sobbed while others stood quietly in prayer at the scene of a horrific car accident that claimed the life of 16-year-old Christina Lembo, a well-liked soccer star and Bloomfield High School student best remembered for her smile. "She was a nice girl, always laughing," said Monika Pollick, whose 15-year-old daughter, Leah, played soccer with Lembo for years. Teams, Families Celebrate Soccer Saturday

For the second year in a row, soccer players from Caldwell/West Caldwell honored the late Col. John McHugh, class of 1982.

It took more than a little rain to dampen the enthusiasm of soccer players and their families who celebrated the annual tradition of Soccer Saturday—where club and high school players get together to celebrate and support local soccer. For the second year in a row, a special presentation was made to the family of the late Col. John McHugh, a James Caldwell High School alumnus and former soccer player, who died in Afghanistan in May 2010. The festivities began Saturday at Caldwell High School where the freshman boys beat Nutley by a score of 3-1. Local teams from the Caldwell/West Caldwell soccer club got their team pictures taken, and snacks and soccer clothing was on sale. However, when the rain began to pour down, the JV game was …

Caldwell-West Caldwell's annual soccer celebration, the Col. John McHugh Memorial Soccer Saturday, is set for Saturday, Sept. 8. On Soccer Saturday, all James Caldwell High School teams play at home on either Bonnel Field or the Lower Field. There will also be the presentation of the Col. John McHugh Memorial Awards, in honor of a JCHS graduate who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. Sign Up for Caldwell-West Caldwell Soccer Clinic

Registration under way for introductory program for pre-k through first graders.

Caldwell-West Caldwell Soccer Club is now accepting registration for the Fall 2012/Spring 2013 introductory soccer clinic.  Children entering pre-k through first grade this fall are eligible to participate in the program, which introduces boys and girls to basic soccer skills and group play. No previous soccer experience is necessary to participate. Ten games will be played on Saturday mornings in West Caldwell: five games starting Saturday, Sept. 22, and five games starting in April. Professional trainers will be onsite to assist the coaches and players. Registration is $85 for all 10 sessions. Children are required to wear shin guards. All other equipment will be provided. Caldwell Hires New Men's Soccer Coach

New York Red Bulls youth coach will lead Caldwell College team.

A former Cougars standout defender, Asgeir Ofstad, has been hired to coach the Caldwell Collegemen’s soccer team, Executive Director of Athletics Mark A. Corino announced Monday.  Ofstad, who lives in West Caldwell, returns to Caldwell after coaching youth soccer for the past five years. “We are happy to welcome Asgeir back to Caldwell as our men’s soccer coach,” Corino stated in a release. “He was an outstanding student-athlete for us, and we feel he will bring the same determination and commitment he had as a player to our men’s soccer program as the head coach.” Ofstad has been a part of the New York Red Bulls as a youth coach for the past two years.
