Hundreds of people gathered on James Caldwell High School's Bonnel Field Friday to join the fight against cancer. The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life was held for a fourth year in a row at the high school this weekend. Well over 300 parents, children, seniors and students of all ages walked around school's track through the night as a symbol of their commitment to find a cure for cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease. Senior high school student Peter Thomann was walking in the event as part of team No Surrender. The team's name was emblazoned with big, bold letters on bright yellow T-shirts that Thomann and more than 20 other students were wearing. Awards pool concessions contract for 2013 season.
While the West Caldwell Council held off on introducing the muncipal budget until the April 2 meeting, several housekeeping ordinances and resolutions were approved Tuesday night. The council unanimously approved $451,000 in improvements to the Kirkpatrick Lane sewer pumping station. A bond ordinance was approved appropriating $1,348,000 for the design and replacement of water mains on St. Charles Avenue and Mt. Herman Way. With members of Cub Scout Pack 6 in attendance, West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta explained that by pounding his gavel, the ordinances the council had just approved had now become new laws for the town. 3rd annual fundraiser for American Cancer Society at James Caldwell High School's Bonnel Field.
Four hundred people passionate about finding a cure for cancer are taking turns walking around the Bonnel Field track all night Friday for the third annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of James Caldwell High School. The walkers, mostly students from the West Caldwell school, are members of 39 teams who have raised around $70,000 for the American Cancer Society, according to Trish Martin, JCHS Faculty Advisor. Martin said each team must have at least one member on the track for the entire event which began at 7 p.m. with an opening ceremony and survivors walking the first lap. Rockn' Joe coffee rocks! Readers of New Jersey Monthly voted Rockn' Joe Coffeehouse and Bistro the best in the state in the 2012 Jersey Choice Best of NJ Reader's Choice poll. Results are printed in the April issue which hit newsstands this week as well as online. The first Rockn' Joe opened in Cranford in 1993 and there are now a total of six locations around the state. Caldwell's rock-themed coffeeshop opened at 339 Bloomfield Ave. four years ago. Franchise owners Dan and Darlene Sgarlato live in West Caldwell and raised their family here.
