All signs point to Nicco's. The Caldwell deli was the clear winner of this week's poll which asked readers, what's your favorite deli? And, if you have been by Nicco's on Bloomfield Avenue, you know there are a lot of signs in the Italian deli's window. One says they are open until 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday nights. Another reminds passersby that they serve hot breakfast daily, including eggs with Taylor ham and cheese, Italian sausage or sausage and peppers. Then there are the signs that indicate they serve up "famous soups" and point drivers to parking in the rear. Finally, the awning reads "Dinners to Go — We Deliver." Two of three reviewers on Nicco's listing page give the eatery high-praise. Here's some of what they had to say. "I …

What's a great place to get sandwiches where you live?
Perhaps it's the fresh bread, savory meats and cheeses or homemade salads? Maybe it's the personality of the folks behind the counter. But everybody has a delicatessen that's special to them. I mean, it's New Jersey after all. Maybe you like to get pastrami on rye, mozzarella and prosciutto, or fresh turkey on a roll. But whatever you order, you keep going back there for a reason. This week, share with us the name of your favorite deli. And, if you like, tell us why you like it in the comments section. We'll publish the results on Friday. And, in the meantime, bon appetit!

Memorial Day is just a couple of weeks away. Just because you don’t have any plans for the long-weekend, doesn’t mean you can’t get away for a day while staying close to home. This week’s Readers’ Choice poll asked Patch readers to vote for their idea of a perfect “staycation.” The results were a tie between two destinations—Essex County Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange and The Spa at the Short Hills Hilton. NJ Monthly readers recently voted Turtle Back the best zoo in the state. Visitors can get up close and personal with bears, wolves, penguins and a barn-full of farm animals. The zoo just welcomed a Komodo Dragon to its Reptile Center last week. Need time away from wildlife—a.k.a. the kids? Book yourself a massage, facial and other …

New Jersey residents love their bagels with a passion. Where do you get your favorite bagels?
Some people think of a bagel as just a plain old bread product in the shape of a circle and every bagel is the same. However, New Jersey residents know that is just not true. A staple food of the state, bagels can come in all different types, sizes and shapes. Some people like to have seeds on their bagel, such as sesame or poppy or the ever popular “everything bagel” which includes a mixture of it all. Some people like their bagels to be sweet with chocolate chips or raisons or even blueberries. Some like their bagels with a kick and buy the types with onions or garlic; a few places even make them with jalapenos. There are also the old classics such as pumpernickel and egg bagels. Then there is the size and density of the bagel. Some …

When Patch asked readers this week to name their favorite local sushi place, Nori in Caldwell floated to the top. Nori, located at 406 Bloomfield Ave., offers sushi and sashimi a la carte, as well as an assortment of rolls and hand rolls. They also serve hibachi, teriyaki and other Southeast Asian specialties. But some avid fans will tell you it’s their extensive list of specialty rolls that keep them coming back for more. And what's not to love about their “hyperlocal” rolls—the Caldwell has shrimp tempura and tuna on top, and the Verona features salmon and avocado with spicy tuna. After a week of voting, it was a close contest. Nori edged out Sushi Café in West Caldwell by only a handful of votes. On April 15, Sushi Café will host a …

I like Nicco's also, love it in fact, too bad the parking was removed from the front of the store and across the street and the parking lot behind the are is so limited and hardly ever has an opening. And too bad that the traffic is worse than ever at that intersection. I am sure all the businesses there were hurt.   more ›
