Mount Track Team Competing in Penn Relays

Local athletes attend one of the longest running and best attended meets in the world.

The Mount Saint Dominic Academy track team is competing in The Penn Relays, starting Thursday in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meets, school officials announced. This is the fourth consecutive year that The Mount, located in Caldwell, has participated in the prestigious event in Philadelphia. The Penn Relays dates back to 1895 and is one of the longest running and best attended meets in the world. According to the Penn Relays website:

Mount Seniors to Play College Basketball

Mount Saint Dominic Academy student-athletes Stefani Alston will go to Dominican College. Camille McPherson plans to attend University of the Sciences.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy senior student-athletes Camille McPherson and Stefani Alston have signed National Letters of Intent to play college-level sports, the Caldwell school announced on its website. McPherson will attend University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, where she will also play Division II basketball. In her senior season, McPherson joined the elite group of Lions' players to score more than 1,000 points. She will major in biology. Alston will attend Dominican College in New York, where she will compete on the Division II basketball team in the fall. Broadway Stars Perform at The Mount

Hear selections from 'Phantom of the Opera,' 'Les Miserables,' 'In the Heights' at benefit concert for Caldwell school.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell will host an evening of wine and song, Taste of Broadway, on Saturday, April 27 at the Doris M. Byrne Performing Arts Center on campus. The evening will include performances by Robert DuSold and Natalie Toro.   Toro most recently received accolades for the role she originated on Broadway portraying Madame Defarge in A Tale of Two Cities. She was the first American to play the role of Eponine in Les Miserables on Broadway and continued her career as Grizabella in Cats. She played Camila in the Tony Award winner for best musical, In the Heights, and performed in the show’s anniversary reunion concert earlier this year. Mount Takes Home 'CSI: Caldwell' Trophy

Young forensic scientists given a staged crime scene to scrutinize.

The Forensic Science team from Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell won the seventh annual Caldwell College Crime Scene Competition this past weekend. The young scientists were given a staged crime scene to scrutinize at the competition on March 23. A police officer judged the contestants on the manner in which they conducted their investigation, encompassing processing the scene; photographing, sketching and describing it; gathering evidence including fingerprints; performing lab tests; using a computer program to generate a sketch of the suspect; and even interviewing a witness. McPherson Hits 1,000-Point Mark With Mount

Senior becomes only sixth player in school history known to reach milestone.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy basketball player Camille McPherson is only the sixth player known to score 1,000 points in the school’s history, according to a release from the Mount’s Athletic Department. The Lions senior reached the milestone Tuesday when the Mount defeated Bloomfield Tech, 66-49. Camille scored 17 points in the game. Camille is the third player to surpass 1,000 points under head basketball coach Jerry Aquino. The Mount was defeated, 41-36, by Shabazz in the Essex County Tournament semi-final round on Feb. 16. The seventh-seeded Lions open up in the state tournament Non Public A sectional on Feb. 26, at 7 p.m., versus Union Catholic.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy places first in Paramus Catholic High School Cheer Invitational.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy cheerleaders placed first in "All Levels" at the 2013 Paramus Catholic High School Cheer Invitational, according to the Mount's Athletic Department.  The competition took place on Saturday, Feb. 16, in Paramus. The Mount is a Catholic girls high school located in Caldwell.

Lions' Megan Wujciak Named Athlete of the Month

This Mount Saint Dominic senior is a standout swimmer.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy senior Megan Wujciak has been named the Caldwell school's January Athlete of the Month. Wujciak helped the Lions' swim team achieve a 10-0 regular season record as well as the Essex County and Super Essex Conference titles by winning all of her races, according to an announcement from the school. She has been especially dominant in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events.

Mount Students Recognize Victims of Sandy Hook

Catholic high school in Caldwell expands Epiphany prayer service to include those killed in mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Students at Mount Saint Dominic Academy expanded on their traditional Epiphany prayer service this year by recognizing the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. Each year, students at the Catholic high school ask for God’s blessing for their homes and school on or around Jan. 6. They follow a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages, inscribing in chalk 20 + C + M + B + 13 on the doors of each of their classrooms. According to a release from the school, the letters represent the initials of the Magi (Casper, Melchior, Balthasar), the wise men who visited Jesus Christ shortly after his birth in Bethlehem, as well as the Latin motto, Christus mansionem benedicat, which translates to “May Christ Bless This…

Mount Saint Dominic Alumnae Reunite for Basketball Game

More than 20 former players returned to school for a friendly game in Caldwell Friday.

Three of the highest scorers in Mount Saint Dominic Academy's history were among the players to participate in the school's first annual Alumnae Basketball Game in Caldwell on Friday. The Mount reached out to former players by phone, email and Facebook, rounding up 25 participants who were divided into two teams, Blue and White.  The former faced off in the school's Athletic Center for two, 20-minute halves, and players competed in a three-point contest at halftime. It was a close game, but the Blue team pulled out a 34-31 victory. The high scorer for the game was Meghan Duffy ’11 on the White Team. Participants ranged from the class of 1993 (Cristina Galindo Frazzano) up to the class of 2012 (Jamie Purcell), and included three 1,000+ …

Mount Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

Wujciak to swim for Penn State, Johnson will play softball for Central Connecticut.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell recently announced that two seniors have committed to play college-level sports.  Megan Wujciak '13 of West Caldwell signed her National Letter of intent to swim at Penn State in the fall. Wujciak has been an integral part of the swim teams' success at Mount Saint Dominic Academy, according to a release from the school, and will now continue on to the collegiate level on the Division I swim team at Penn State. Katie Johnson '13 of Denville signed her National Letter of intent to play Division I softball for Central Connecticut State next fall.
