'What's Your Point?' Sandy T-Shirts for Sale at Wish in Caldwell

Boutique owner says proceeds from t-shirt sales will go to Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.

The owner of Wish Boutique in Caldwell set out to create a summery storefront to beat the winter blues and ended up with a fundraising effort for victims of Hurricane Sandy.  Gina Cifelli's "What's Your Point?" t-shirts, with the names of shore points listed on the back, are displayed on the bikini-clad manequins in the window of her shop. The green t-shirts are $25 each and are available in youth, women and men's sizes. All proceeds from sales of the shirts will be donated to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, which was founded by N.J. First Lady Mary Pat Christie. To kick-off the fundraiser, she'll hold a wine and cheese party on Friday, March 8, from 6 to 10 p.m., and offer 20% off to customers all night. On Saturday, March 9, …

North Caldwell Firefighters Assist Ocean County in Sandy Recovery

Volunteers helped perform search and rescue operations and more in the wake of storm.

They performed search and rescue operations and automobile extrications. They responded to carbon monoxide alarms and put out small fires.  Volunteer firefighters from North Caldwell and around Essex County were among those called into action to assist south Jersey in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. In the early morning hours of Friday, Nov. 2, just days after Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore, a Task Force of Fire Apparatus and Firefighters from Essex County responded to a request for assistance from Ocean County, according to Essex County Fire Coordinator John D’Ascensio. Mutual aid came from fire departments from Atlantic to Warren counties, as well as military installations throughout New Jersey, said D’Ascensio, chief of the North …

Where to Bring Donations for Sandy Victims

What items are needed for storm victims and where to bring them in the Caldwells.

With most power now restored in the Caldwells, residents are turning their focus on efforts to help victims of Hurricane Sandy—a historic storm that devasted large regions of the state from Hoboken to the Jersey Shore. Rockn' Joe in Caldwell has already collected two truckloads of donations thanks to a drive started by the owners' 17-year-old daughter, Adrienne. A first truckload of blankets, diapers, sweatshirts, socks and cleaning supplies was brought to Hoboken over the weekend.  "We all think of restaurant row and wealthy high-rises that overlook New York. It's not that! It surely wasn't that this weekend," Adrienne's mother, Darlene Sgarlato, said. On Wednesday, a second truckload of donations brought to the coffee shop was on its way…

'Snookiville' Law Would Allow TV Production Regulation [POLL]

Aims to give New Jersey municipalities a say over reality shows.

Worried that your town may become the next Snookiville? Well, a bill introduced Monday aims to arm New Jersey municipalities with the right to regulate reality TV shows. Dubbed the "Snookiville Law," the bill introduced by Assemblyman Ronald Dancer (R-12) would allow towns to impose conditions on shows like the "Snooki & JWoww" production that began filming in Manchester in August or the previous installments of "Jersey Shore" that filmed in Seaside Heights and Toms River. “The popularity of MTV’s 'Jersey Shore' and other reality shows can attract crowds to a community,” Dancer said in a news release. “That can be great for local businesses and a costly challenge to a town’s ability to control crowds and protect public safety."  The bill …

'Jersey Shore:' What is Show's Lasting Impact on NJ?

Did MTV's raucous reality show change national perceptions of the Garden State?

MTV's Jersey Shore may soon be history, but will images of drunken misbehavior, boardwalk brawls and ample helpings of "gym, tan, laundry" characterize the Garden State for years to come? On Thursday, MTV announced the show would not return after its sixth season, taped this summer in Seaside Heights, airs this fall. But what is the lasting impact of the TV series that many say put the worst of the state's stereotypes on display for millions of viewers across the world? Were the antics of the eight housemates on Ocean Terrace just a few young people having fun, or has it done permanent damage to the state's reputation?

'Jersey Shore' Canceled By MTV

Final season will begin airing in October

Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous - or, at least, infamous - is going off the air. MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series "Jersey Shore" will end after a recently-taped season airs this fall. The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight 20-somethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, will premier Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. The network will air "Gym, Tan, Look Back" as part of a farewell marathon Sept. 6, and the cast will make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that night. The network has not given a reason why the series is ending. In addition to the well-documented antics at local night spots such as Karma, …

You're joking, Mr. Gaine. Right? Do you actually think the only hours and days teachers work are those days when they are in the building? I no longer teach, but after 3 years of ignorant and clueless teacher bashing, it's getting pretty old, especially when trolls feel the need to toss in a jab at teachers in an article that has absolutely nothing to do with education. Get your facts straight. I…   more ›
