'Jersey Proud' Ad Highlights Christie Re-election Campaign

The $1.2 million ad buy shows road to New Jerseyans' optimism in their state.

In Gov. Chris Christie's first television ad of his 2013 re-election campaign, the governor's leadership style is credited for renewing New Jersey residents' pride in their state after years of overtaxation and too much government spending. "Jersey Proud" shows how bipartisan reforms have helped "to strengthen New Jersey's future," according to the Christie campaign.

DiVincenzo Delivers State of County Address Before Christie, Dignitaries

Essex County executive highlights accomplishments, announces litany of 2013 projects during annual speech.

Before a crowd of more than 300 people Tuesday night, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. heralded Essex County’s most significant accomplishments in his 10th annual State of the County address at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove. The audience, which included Gov. Chris Christie, state Sen. President Stephen Sweeney and state Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver, listened intently as DiVincenzo checked off a litany of accomplishments, including spending cuts, revenue increases, controlling taxes and providing services. “At a time when all levels of government have raided their surpluses, we have been able to grow our rainy day fund,” said DiVincenzo, praising the county’s ability to prevent layoffs and improve its …

Chris Christie: The New Boss?

Governor hailed as hero following Sandy, says he's 'more ready' to consider presidential run.

Gov. Chris Christie has been considered by some legislators and constituents to be somewhat of a hero for his response and leadership following Superstorm Sandy. But now that the storm has passed, the governor is looking toward the future and a potential run for presidency, according to a Time magazine article, "The Boss," about the state's leader. As Republicans look to place a strong candidate in the 2016 presidential election, Christie may be their choice. But state Democratic leaders said there is much the governor has still not delivered on during his tenure. Despite rumors that he was planning to run for president in 2012, Christie publicly announced several times over that he did not have intentions to run. Now months later, after …

Christie State of the State Focuses on Sandy, Bipartisan Politics

Governor delivered his third State of the State address Tuesday in Trenton.

It’s been a consistent refrain from Gov. Chris Christie’s office following Hurricane Sandy’s landing on New Jersey’s shores. Make no mistake about it, he told the assembled crowd of lawmakers at the Statehouse Tuesday afternoon, New Jersey will be back. As expected, much of Christie’s State of the State address focused on Sandy’s impact on New Jersey and the ongoing effort to see those areas most devastated by the storm restored as quickly as possible. During the approximately 45-minute speech, one that was marked by several standing ovations—many of them for Christie, some for residents who performed heroically during and after Sandy—the governor appealed for bipartisanship in politics at both the state and national level as New Jersey …

Come on Captain Christie we all know the greatest experience in your life was steering your boat through the hurricane; now let us have a moratorium on development, rather dumb development just to stimulate some short term work, ruin our environment and bring on the next super storm..Go back to your bathtub and remember water doesn't come from a plastic bottle aquifer. Tabitha's Law Requires Parents to Report Absences

Law also mandates school officials to contact parents if a student is absent without prior notification.

Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation into law on Friday requiring parents to notify officials when their child will be absent from school. The law also stipulates that school officials must contact a parent if a student is absent without prior notification to the school. “Community leaders and parents will now be required to take immediate, personal responsibility for the children they must care for and protect,” state Senator Kevin O’Toole, who initiated the new law, said in a press release. “Just a few seconds of accountability can be enough to save lives and solve abductions.” The bill, known as Tabitha’s Law, is named for a Tennessee teenager, Tabitha Tudor, who has been missing since 2003. Tudor's parents were not aware she did not …

Christie to Seek Re-Election

Chris Christie announced he would seek a second term as New Jersey governor.

Gov. Chris Christie will seek a second term as New Jersey's governor. He made the announcement during an appearance at a press conference at the Port Monmouth Fire Dept. Monday afternoon. Christie declined to talk in detail about his bid, saying he is saving that for a more formal announcement in January.  But he did say he sought the advice of his wife, Mary Pat, and four children, over the Thanksgiving Day weekend, and got their blessing.  "I have a job to finish that I would have never anticipated to have six weeks ago," said Christie. He said loved the Garden State. "I want to leave it better than I found it when I'm done."  The gubernatorial election will take place in November 2013. In response to a question about whether he would …

Pathmark Shooting, Party Bus Accident, Christie Keynote Top State News

Other top stories this week included the cancellation of MTV's 'Jersey Shore,' and the botched sinking of what was expected to be the world's largest underwater sculpture.

A 23-year-old man, described by neighbors as a recently discharged military veteran, shot and killed two co-workers before taking his own life at the Pathmark supermarket in Old Bridge early Friday morning, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan. A 16-year-old boy from Sayreville riding on a bus full of teenagers heading to a Sweet 16 was killed Friday after he stuck his head out of a roof hatch on the bus and hit an overpass as the vehicle drove on Interstate 95 southbound, near the George Washington Bridge, an official said. The show that made Seaside Heights famous—or, at least, infamous—is going off the air. MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series "Jersey Shore" will end after a recently taped season airs this …
