Forensics Team Takes Home First Place Trophy

Grover Cleveland Middle Schoolers win 12 trophies overall in recent tournament.

Students from Grover Cleveland Middle School (GCMS), Caldwell, struck gold when they participated in the Lancer Junior Invitation Forensic Tournament last month. The middle school forensics team brought home 11 individual trophies, earning the trophy for first place overall.  The competition was held at Livingston High School, Livingston, where the sixth, seventh and eighth graders competed against more than ten school districts and 90 students. The tournament is for students performing Oratorical Declamation and Interpretive Reading (Prose or Poetry) in grades 5 through 8. The event is run and judged by experienced "forensicators," who compete in both speech and debate at either a state or national level. Sponsored by the New Jersey …

This is a wonderful achievement for these students. I would like to hear more about the academic and artistic successes of the CWC students. They should be treated on par with sports accomplishments.   more ›

Students Bring Home Forensics Tournament Trophies

Eight students from Grover Cleveland Middle School, Caldwell, participated in the Essex County Committee for Gifted and Talented Education’s Forensic Tournament for Oratorical Declamation at Heritage Middle School, Livingston. Students placing in the competition included varsity first place winner Rachael Borrows for her recitation of "Princess Diana’s Eulogy," varsity third place winner Lydia Wielgus reciting Elizabeth Glasser’s "Speech on AIDS," and junior varsity third place winner Olivia Cararra for her recitation of Susan B. Anthony’s "Right to Vote." The students from the Gifted Academic Program competed against more than 160 students from throughout Northern New Jersey in the event sponsored by the New Jersey Consortium for Gifted …
