Official results of borough council race come nearly two weeks after election.

Democrat Edward Durkin and Republican incumbent Richard Hauser waited nearly two weeks to learn Monday they won the Caldwell Council race, which was too close to call when the machine votes were counted on election night. Durkin received a total of 1,649 votes while Hauser received 1,628 votes, Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin said by phone Monday. Their running mates, Republican incumbent Peter Murray and Democrat Susan Vezza received 1,616 and 1,575 votes, respectively, the clerk said. The Essex County Clerk will bring his services to the West Caldwell Public Library on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. During these times, residents may process passports, Notary Public oaths and Veterans Peddler licenses. No other services are available at the outreach centers. Other services must be conducted in person at the Clerk’s Office. The Clerk offers these outreach hours for the convenience of West Essex residents on the fourth Saturday of every month. Residents are asked to arrive 30 minutes before closing.
