New Jersey law allows contributors who donate less than $300 to remain anonymous.
A published report Sunday revealed New Jersey’s current campaign donation system needs to be revised after it was disclosed politicians can receive more money while still keeping the names of their donors secret — as long as the contributions are less than $300. The NJ.com report said most states allow campaigns to keep only those donors who give $100, $50 or less private, but Garden State politicians don’t have to report any information about people who contribute less than $300. The report said because of the state’s secretive laws, candidates were able to hide about $12 million out of the $100 million donated. Cedar Grove Police are collecting a plethora of personal items to ship to soldiers in Afghanistan.
The Cedar Grove Police Department is getting into the holiday spirit by organizing care-packages to send to troops serving overseas. Donations can be dropped off in a collection bin in the lobby of the Cedar Grove Municipal Building at 525 Pompton Ave. Police will be accepting donations until January 1. This year, the packages will be sent to 20 soldiers operating in Afghanistan, including one resident from West Caldwell. “Thanks to the generosity of our residents, last year’s drive was a great success and we were able to send care packages to many of our soldiers away from their families during the Holidays,” police said in a written statement. “Please help us say thank you to our troops by sending them a little piece of home,” police …

The West Caldwell Police Department will be collecting donations of household items to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy. “Please remember that many people left their homes with only the clothes they were wearing,” police said. They will be accepting non-perishable food, new toys, pet supplies, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and all kinds of household items. Donations can be brought to the former K-B Toys Store on 911 Bloomfield Ave. in West Caldwell, between Sears Hardware and the New York Sports Club. Collections will be held from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. starting on Saturday Nov. 10 through Monday Nov. 19.
