Caldwell College held its fourth annual Caldwell Day, a day of service on Friday Oct. 5. Classes were cancelled, non-essential offices were closed, and students, faculty, staff and administration took to the community to volunteer at numerous sites, ranging from churches and inner city schools to environmental sites and senior citizen homes. The service work included: painting, cleaning, doing crafts and playing bocce ball with the elderly, working as a teacher’s assistant in inner city schools, taking youngsters to the park, moving mulch for environmental groups, cleaning the fire house and fire trucks, and packing at the food bank. Caldwell College students and faculty are skipping class, again. The fourth annual Caldwell Day, a day of service, will take place on Friday, Oct. 5. Classes are cancelled for students, faculty and staff who will gather on campus at 9:30 a.m. and disperse to various volunteer sites throughout North Jersey. They’ll go to Roseland United Methodist Church and the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland, the Community Church of Cedar Grove in Cedar Grove, as well as help out at the Caldwell Fire Department, Caldwell Environmental Commission, St. Catherine Health Care Center on campus and Marian Manor near campus.
