Skaters Take to Ice for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Courtright family of Caldwell raises $3K with second annual Skate4CF.

More than 100 people laced up their ice skates for the second annual Skate4CF, a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation organized by the Courtright family of Caldwell.  The event, held Saturday at Clary Anderson Arena in Montclair, raised approximately $3,000 through admission costs, a silent auction, a bake sale and t-shirt sales. The proceeds will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Mauli Ola Foundation, which teaches children with CF how to surf. (Salt air is a natural therapy for those afflicted with the disease.) Greg and Jeanne Courtright have been actively involved in raising funds to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, which affects the lung, pancreas and liver, since two of their four children were diagnosed …

Skate 4CF Benefits Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Second annual event hosted by Courtright family of Caldwell at Clary Anderson Arena in Montclair.

On a typical day, 3-year-old Mitchell Courtright undergoes two-and-a-half hours of breathing treatments. It is estimated he has taken more than 25,000 doses of medication in his life. Mitchell and his 8-year-old brother Matthew have Cystic Fibrosis, a disease that affects the lung, pancreas and liver. A disease, the boys’ father, Gregory Courtright, explained, that has no cure. “The only way a cure can be found is through private donations,” Courtright said at a recent meeting of the Caldwell Council. He and his wife, Jeanne, residents of the borough since 2002, have been actively raising funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since their sons were diagnosed. The family is hosting the second annual Skate 4CF on Saturday, April 6, from 12…

Caldwell Boy Designs 'Help CF Fly Away' T-Shirt

An 8-year-old with Cystic Fibrosis creates t-shirt design to raise money for foundation.

A blue t-shirt with a drawing of an owl in flight reads, “Help CF Fly Away.”  This simple, yet powerful, design was created by Matthew Courtright, an 8-year-old Caldwell boy living with cystic fibrosis, a chronic lung disease. Matthew and his little brother Mitchell were both diagnosed with CF in 2010. Since their diagnosis, the boys and their family have become actively involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, raising more than $15,000 through The Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis and other events. For this year’s Great Strides Walk, Matthew asked his parents if he could design the team t-shirt. His wish was made possible with the help of MJG Promotions in Fairfield. The owl on the front of the shirt is carrying two roses, a …

James Caldwell Sophomores Plan Egg Hunt to Benefit Courtright Family

Fifth Year for Morgan and Emily's Easter Egg Hunt Fundraiser

From running lemonade stands to hosting their annual Easter Egg hunt, James Caldwell High school Sophomores Morgan Vitiello and Emily Fiore have dedicated countless hours to raising funds for children and families in need, and this year will be no different. For their fifth annual Morgan and Emily Easter Egg Hunt, all proceeds will go to benefit the Courtright family of Caldwell, a family itself that has devoted much time to fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) after learning their two sons were diagnosed with this disease. "The fundraising started because we wanted to help children.  Seeing kids that are sick inspires me to want to raise a lot of money for them," said Vitiello.  "I am happy when I see others smile, especially when I know …
