Caldwell College Wins CACC Softball Championship

This is the fifth CACC softball championship for Caldwell.

The Caldwell College softball team clinched the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over Georgian Court University at the GCU Softball Complex.  Freshman Brielle Reighn hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, earning the CACC Tournament's Most Valuable Player. The conference championship gives Caldwell (43-10) the CACC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II East Regional. This is the fifth CACC softball championship for Caldwell, who won in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 under head coach Dean Johnson. Georgian Court had eliminated the Cougars at the CACC Tournament in each of the past four years, including the 2009 final.

Caldwell College Women's Basketball Wins Semi-Finals in Double-Overtime

Cougars defeat Goldey-Beacom, seek first CACC title since 2003.

Caldwell College advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament finals after a thrilling double-overtime win over Goldey-Beacom College Friday afternoon. Caldwell overcame Goldey-Beacom, 70-69, in the semifinals held at the University of the Sciences' Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. The victory makes it 15 wins in a row for the Cougars, who are 19-11 overall. The final on Saturday will be played at 4 p.m. at USciences against the winner of the Holy Family and Dominican semi-final. It will be the sixth time the Cougars advance to the finals in the program’s history and the first time since 2003, when Caldwell won the CACC championship. Caldwell Hosts Philadelphia in Opening Round of CACC Tournament

Cougars womens basketball team comes into the tournament with a 13-game winning streak.

Caldwell College will host Philadelphia University Saturday in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament. The game starts at 2 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center. Admission for the game is $6 for adults and $3 for children, students and seniors. The first 100 Caldwell College students are free, compliments of Student Activities.  The Cougars (17-11) come into the tournament with the CACC North Division title and a 13-game winning streak, a program record for consecutive victories. The Rams (13-12) enter the tournament as the fourth seed in the South. Earlier this season, the Cougars won at Philadelphia, 66-51 on Jan. 26. Cougars Clinch CACC North Division Crown

Caldwell College women's basketball defeats Concordia College for title.

The Caldwell College women's basketball team clinched the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title with a 73-60 win in the final against Concordia College in Bronxville, N.Y. Saturday, the Cougars Athletic Department announced. This is the first time Caldwell finished alone in first place since the conference went to divisions in 2007-08. The Cougars shared the title with Bloomfield College in 2010-11. The team finished the regular season with a 17-11 overall record, and a 15-4 record in the CACC North Division. Caldwell, the top-seeded team from the North will host fourth-seeded Philadelphia University from the South in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m., in the George R. Newman Center.

Caldwell Coach Earns 100th Career Win

Women’s basketball coach Linda Cimino wins hundredth game with Cougars.

Congratulations are in order for Caldwell College women’s basketball head coach Linda Cimino who earned her 100th career win Saturday when the Cougars defeated Philadelphia University, 66-51, in the Gallagher Center.  Cimino becomes the second Caldwell women’s basketball coach to reach the milestone. Her overall record is 100-87 in her seventh season as coach. (Bob Costello has the program’s most wins, with 112 recorded between 1994 and 2000.) With Saturday's win, the Cougars extended their winning streak to five and improved to 9-11 overall and 7-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. Caldwell continues league play with a home game against Dominican College on Tuesday. The game starts at 6 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center. …

Anderson Scores 1,000th Point as Cougars Beat Queens, 69-63

Junior forward becomes 15th woman to reach milestone in Caldwell College program's history.

Caldwell College junior forward Jeanette Anderson surpassed the 1,000-point mark Wednesday night when the Cougars defeated the Queens College Knights 69-63 in a non-conference home game. Anderson, who hails from Lynn, Mass., entered the game two points shy of the milestone. Less than two minutes into the game, she grabbed an offensive rebound and scored, becoming the 15th woman in the program's history to reach 1,000 points. The Cougars are 3-10 on the season. Their next home game is Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m., against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Felician College. Like fo follow Cougars action? Attention Cougars fans! You can now follow all the action of Caldwell College sports on a new website, www.caldwellathletics.com, launched this week.  The site is the go-to place for news, game coverage, photos, player bios, schedules and statistics for the school's 11 intercollegiate athletics programs. "The Athletics Department partnered with Sidearm Sports to develop the new Home of the Cougars, which has new capabilities such as live stats and video highlights," according to a release. Former Knight Makes History at Muhlenberg

West Essex graduate Kayleigh Thies led team in goals and assists.

West Essex graduate Kayleigh Thies, a sophomore on the Muhlenberg College field hockey team, was recently named to the All-Centennial Conference second team. Thies returned as a forward in 2012 and started in all 16 games, according to a release from the school. She led the team in both goals (5) and assists (6), contributing 16 points to her previous 27 career points. The former Knight is only the second player in Muhlenberg history to achieve double digits in goals (16) and assists (11) after two seasons.  Thies is a resident of North Caldwell. Muhlenberg finished the 2012 season with a 9-7 record, four wins better than in 2011.

Caldwell Hires New Men's Soccer Coach

New York Red Bulls youth coach will lead Caldwell College team.

A former Cougars standout defender, Asgeir Ofstad, has been hired to coach the Caldwell Collegemen’s soccer team, Executive Director of Athletics Mark A. Corino announced Monday.  Ofstad, who lives in West Caldwell, returns to Caldwell after coaching youth soccer for the past five years. “We are happy to welcome Asgeir back to Caldwell as our men’s soccer coach,” Corino stated in a release. “He was an outstanding student-athlete for us, and we feel he will bring the same determination and commitment he had as a player to our men’s soccer program as the head coach.” Ofstad has been a part of the New York Red Bulls as a youth coach for the past two years.
