West Essex Regional High School's Class of 2012 graduated on Sunday, June 17 under sunny skies and with a bright future ahead of them. The interactive map above depicts the dozens of colleges, universities and other schools students will be attending come fall. (Schools provided by district.) The most popular two-year school is the County College of Morris with 22 students enrolled, and the top four-year college is Montclair State University, where some 14 students plan to go. While most graduates will stay in the tri-state area, five will be attending college in Arizona, another handful will be going south to Florida and two will head north to Vermont. The following Valedictory Address was given by Herminio "Jet" Navia III, Valedictorian of West Essex Regional High School Class of 2012. Commencement was held on Sunday, June 17. Good evening. As many of you already know, my name is Herminio Navia III, or Jet, and it is truly a great honor to be here as one of the voices of the Class of 2012 tonight. Before I continue, I would like to thank the Board of Education, Superintendent Longo, Principal Suda the administration, faculty, staff, parents, especially mine, families, friends and fellow students. Each year, several West Essex student artists create the "Senior Mural" as their Senior Sevice Project under the direction of art teacher Eileen Dormer. From the time they enter as freshmen, students look forward to the day when they, too, will keep up the tradition of adding their signatures to the walls of the high school by signing "their" mural. The 2012 mural is a stand-out, painted by Grace Barretti, Jenna Bartello and Michael Leonardis. The students created a spectacular 3-dimensional illusion with the school's Knight viewing their names by torchlight.
