Legacy for Literacy Gala to Honor Gov. Tom Kean

Proceeds from benefit will help supplement Caldwell's Carnegie Library.

Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing and former Mayor Susan Gartland are co-hosting a non-partisan fundraiser for the Caldwell Public Library next month. The first annual Legacy for Literacy gala on Thursday, Nov. 15, will honor Former New Jersey Governor and Immediate Past Chairman of the Carnegie Corporation Thomas H. Kean. Former N.J. Governor and Sen. Richard Codey will present the award. “Sen. Codey has said Gov. Kean and he served many years together and he considers him a mentor and a friend. He is very pleased to be able to present this award to him,” Gartland stated in a release. Between 1883 and 1929, 2,509 Carnegie libraries were funded by Carnegie, including the Caldwell Library. Save the Date: Gala to Benefit Public Library

Former and current Caldwell mayors team up to raise money for library.

Caldwell's current and former mayors are teaming up to help the Caldwell Public Library.  The Mayors Legacy for Literacy, a fundraiser organized by the Caldwell Public Library Foundation along with Mayor Ann Dassing and past Mayor Susan Gartland, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Green Brook Country Club in North Caldwell.  The goal of the fundraiser, Dassing said Tuesday, is “to close the budget gap” caused by the reduction in the town’s valuation. Dassing said the goal is to raise around $50,000. “The way that the state values how much a town has to contribute to a library is based on housing values,” explained Caldwell Public Library Director Adele Puccio. “Since housing values have dropped the amount of funding that the …
