The Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education will send a $42 million temporary 2013-14 school budget to the county for approval this week.  The temporary budget approved Monday night signifies a 1.51-percent increase over last year’s budget and a 2-percent increase to the tax levy, according to Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools Superintendent James Heinegg. The district will receive a plaque to display in each school where the paint has been used.  Chris Murphy of Roseland-based Smart Little House said Ennis should be commended for choosing the Mythic paint line and as a result improving the indoor air quality in the schools.  Murphy said children are more susceptible to toxins in the environment and with the amount of time children…

The chiefs and the superintendent have toured the buildings in the district looking for and addressing security weaknesses. Another measure taken was to provide all teachers with keys so they may lock their doors from inside their classrooms. New entrance doors …

Board of Education approves revising calendar to build in additional snow days.

The 2012-2013 Caldwell-West Caldwell school calendar has been revised to allow for additional snow days.  The district's Board of Education approved this week opening for a half-day on Jan. 21 and a full day on Feb. 19. According to the district's website, if no snow/emergency days are used by Friday, April 19, then Friday, May 24, will be a school holiday for all students and district employees. That would make for a four-day Memorial Weekend. Monday, Jan. 21 was previously a scheduled vacation day for observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Tuesday, Feb. 19, the day after President's Day, was formerly part of a four-day weekend winter break. The changes were implemented after Hurricane Sandy on Oct. 29 left district schools without …

McNish Presides Over Final Board of Ed Meeting

Former board members, administrators thank Maureen McNish for nine years of service on the Caldwell-West Caldwell School Board.

Current and former school board members thanked Maureen McNish for her nine years of service at Monday night's Board of Education meeting.  Board President McNish was denied a fourth term on the school board when she lost her seat in the November election. Her running mate, Paula Getty, was re-elected along with first-time candidate Thomas Adams, a retired teacher from the district. Still supporters took the time Monday to remind her of her varied accomplishments, which many said include leading the process to replace longtime Superintendent Daniel Gerardi and Business Administrator Ronald Skopak. Mary Davidson, a member of the board, said she considered McNish a confidant and a friend. "Be proud of all that you have done," Davidson said…
