Library Seeks Vendors for Community Tag Sale
Caldwell Public Library Foundation will sponsor Saturday, June 1 event.
The Caldwell Public Library Foundation is looking for vendors for its first annual Community Tag Sale and Flea Market. The fundraiser benefitting the Caldwell Public Library will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the municipal parking lot behind the library. Proceeds will be used for programming for children and adults. Groups or individuals can reserve space to sell their wares at the event, which is expected to have 30 to 40 vendors. A $25 tax-deductible donation to the foundation is required to reserve a table. Young Adult Lock-In: Les Miserables
Students in grades 6 through 9 invited to spring break lock-in at Caldwell Public Library.
The Caldwell Public Library is hosting a Young Adult Lock-In for students in grades 6 through 9 during spring break on Monday, April 8, at 5:30 p.m. At the lock-in, the library will show the critically acclaimed film set during the French Revolution, Les Miserables, and serve French refreshments. The musical drama based on Victor Hugo's novel includes Oscar winner Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried. Jailed for stealing a loaf of bread, Prisoner 24601 (Jean Valjean) is released on parole after a 19-year sentence. Caldwell Public Library Unveils 10 New Computers
Funds raised at Mayors' Legacy for Literacy help replace aging public access computers.
The Caldwell Public Library Foundation officially donated 10 new public access computers to the Caldwell Public Library this week. Funds for the computers were raised at the Mayors' Legacy for Literacy Gala last November. Mayor Ann Dassing, members of the Caldwell Borough Council, and members of the Library Board attended a reception at the library on Tuesday where Library Director Adele Puccio pointed out new features and the increased computing speed. Former Mayor Sue Gartland, current co-president of the Caldwell Public Library Foundation, spoke about the generosity of the people of Caldwell and all the West Essex communities. Caldwell Library Buys 10 New Computers
Computers paid for with funds from Mayors' Legacy for Literacy.
The Caldwell Public Library is already benefitting from the funds raised by the community at the November Mayors’ Legacy for Literacy Gala. The library has used about a third of the proceeds from the recent fundraiser to purchase 10 new computers, according to Director Adele Puccio. The custom-configured Dell Optiplex computers with 21.5” widescreen monitors will replace all the existing computers, including the six on the main level and the four in the children’s room. The computers have been configured with extra memory, Puccio said. The old computers were about six to eight years old and replacement was beginning Wednesday. Caldwell Local History: 300 Books Circulated Among Villagers at Horse Neck Library
Display tells story of Caldwell Public Library's origins.
The origins of the Caldwell Public Library can be traced to a collection of 300 books circulated among the villagers of Horse Neck in the late 1780s. The library was established by The Presbytery Society and was housed in a small building near a church. These local history facts and more can be found at an exhibit currently on display at the Caldwell Public Library, which was established in 1917 with $10,000 from the Carnegie Foundation. The display includes photographs from the recent Mayors' Legacy for Literacy gala. The evening raised $32,000 to support essential library services. Can you help by donating missing copies of the James Caldwell High School 'Clarion'?
The Caldwell Public Library’s local history collection is a little richer thanks to recent donations made by former Caldwell resident Robert A. Young. Among other items, Young donated a 1922 Grover Cleveland High School (now James Caldwell High School) yearbook which belonged to his mother, Emelda (Holt) Young. The copy of the Clarion joins the many Caldwell yearbooks available at the library. But their collection is not complete. According to the winter newsletter, the library is missing the following years and would appreciate donations. 1926-1928 1930-1933 1936 1939-1944 1948-1952 1954-1956 1958-1959 1961-1966 1969-1970 1974-1978 1980-1989 1991-2003 2007 Young also presented the library with two war ration books from World War II and a …
