Artists Paint With Spinach, Beets and Carrots

Children make Caldwell Farmers’ Market wall hangings using all natural, vegetable-based paints.

More than 50 young artists had a chance to try a new medium last Friday at the Caldwell Farmers’ Market.   All children were invited to make their own Caldwell Farmers’ Market wall hangings using all natural, vegetable-based paints. The wall hangings were constructed using recycled paper grocery bags, using bamboo sticks and unbleached twine.  In addition to painting, the artists learned how they could make their own paints using beets, carrots, spinach, red cabbage, lemon rinds, sugar and water.   The recipe can be found here for those who couldn’t attend the market.  The project was conceived and led by Project Main Street volunteer and Caldwell mother, Tracy Voca, with assistance from Maria Voca, Kristi Castano and Nature Noggins—a …

Caldwell Farmers' Market Keeps Growing

Each week brings more fresh fruits, veggies, meats and entertainment.

It’s that time of year again when the freshest produce is available right in your back yard. The Caldwell Farmers' Market is back every Friday between noon and 6 p.m. at the Smull Avenue Municipal Parking lot until Oct. 24. This year’s market promises to get bigger and better every week, with returning old favorites and quality newcomers. From Iona Farms’ famous tomatoes to Jaker’s Pickles or Snoep Winkel Farm’s quality meats, there are a variety of options for anyone seeking fresh goods. New Business Sprouts Up in Verona

Stop by Caldwell Farmers' Market to meet Sprout Food and Farms.

“The business is multi-faceted,” said Dave Chalek, the man behind Sprout Food and Farm’s mission to bring fresh, local, sustainable produce to the area—not just in the summertime but year-round. This soon-to-be Verona resident plans to operate a produce market in the retail space in the front of the property located at 82 Pine St. while maintaining a greenhouse in back. He'll also be running his current landscape design and organic garden care business out of the location, and he’ll do it all seven days a week, 365 days a year. For local residents and restaurants this means access to fresh, flavorful natural produce all year long. And Chalek’s garden is anything but garden variety. He grows plants with such tantalizing names as long …

Caldwell Farmers’ Market Gets Fresh, New Look

Resident donates design services. Market starts Friday, June 29—same place, new hours.

Some Project Main Street volunteers roll up their sleeves to work on community projects. Others donate their professional services to help the organization meet its goals. Caldwell resident and designer Carolynn O’Brien does both. Not only has O’Brien helped plant and mulch trees along Bloomfield Avenue and worked on the annual Beautification Dinner, but the owner of The Graphics Connection, Inc., is also responsible for the beautiful new Caldwell Farmers’ Market banners that will soon hang throughout the downtown. Each banner design features an original illustration of a seasonal vegetable. O’Brien’s artwork captures the spirit of this year’s market, with an increased emphasis on fresh, natural, local foods. “I envisioned the market …
