A waitress from Caldwell who formally worked at the Tick Tock Diner is claiming she was "groped and bombarded with salacious texts" by ex-manager Georgios Spyropoulos, who was recently charged in a murder-for-hire plot, according to NJ.com. Alexandra Scerbak alleges in a lawsuit that Spyropoulos, co-owner of the famous restaurant in Clifton, sexually harassed her by touching her inappropriately on the job, sending her sexually explicit text messages and offering her money in return for sexual acts, according to the article. Spyropoulos' uncle and co-owner Alexandros Sgourdos and two other owners of the diner were also named as co-defendents in the case, according to the newspaper. The Caldwell College Music Department is announcing its third season of the Caldwell Children’s Choir Program, which will be held in this fall and in the spring of 2014. This program is open to children ages 8-14 in grades 3-8. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of music through choral study and performance. President Christy Berg of the nonprofit organization Project Main Street, which founded and funded the annual farmers market, announced the volunteer body will not put on the market this summer. Berg said in a press release the decision to nix the farmers market this year was due in part to "a multitude of logistical issues that prevented the market from thriving" in 2011 and 2012. The Caldwell-West Caldwell School District needs a technology upgrade. At a meeting with district officials and parents Wednesday, Superintendent James Heinegg heard mixed reactions from parents about their children’s experience with technology in the classroom. While some parents said their children had access to laptop or desktop computers, others complained of a lack of resources and infrastructure. “I’ve got children in eighth grade, sixth grade, first grade and pre-K and they all have issues" with technology, said Kevin Murry, a parent who attended the Wednesday meeting. National Library Week may be over, but the effects will live on for many years to come as third-grade students from Lincoln Elementary School travelled to the Caldwell Public Library to celebrate reading and encourage younger students to pick up a book. In April, students from media specialist Doreen Golembeski’s library class walked to the nearby library to share in story time and perform an original song, “Caldecott Books”. The song, written by Golembeski, is sung to the well-known “Adams Family” theme song. After settling in next to the pre-school and kindergarten students, the third-graders listened to stories read by children’s librarian Deborah Khost and then performed the song that highlights various Caldecott authors and books. “…

Seven Caldwell auxiliary officers will be joining the police force and working the streets starting this week. The newest addition to the Caldwell Police Department took their oath of office at the Caldwell Council meeting on Tuesday. These are the only auxiliary officers in the department, and Chief of Police James Bongiorno said the force was happy to have them. “This is a great group,” said Bongiorno. “You stuck in there and you all stuck with me we were able to get them through the training course this year. ... Police departments throughout Essex County are warning drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelts or they can expect a ticket. Local departments will be participating in the national Click It or Ticket seatbelt campaign to crack down on unbuckled motorists and passengers through June. 2. The annual initiative includes high visibility law enforcement seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols, as well as local and national publicity designed to ensure that drivers and passengers recognize the life-saving value of seat belts.
