The West Caldwell school is one of four elementary schools in the Caldwell-West Caldwell district.

TheMore combined school district dates back to 1904 when a vote was made in favor of the consolidation. In 1958, Wilson School was built to accommodate the district's increasing enrollment.

The district now has an enrollment of more than 2,650 students at James Caldwell High School, Grover Cleveland Middle School, Jefferson Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, Washington Elementary School, Wilson Elementary School and Harrison School, now home for the school administration, preschool, preschool disabilities and LLD-Harrison classes and Special Education office.

Named after Rev. James Caldwell, the fighting parson of the American Revolution, the approximately 800-student highMore school serves the Township of West Caldwell and the Borough of Caldwell.

Each year, more than 90 percent of Caldwell High graduates attend schools of higher education and student achievement is above state averages. Caldwell High School is consistently recognized by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of the top 75 high schools in the state.
 
The high school offers a comprehensive curriculum, including academics, visual and performing arts and practical arts. There are also more than 15 advanced placement courses offered in addition to a program for remedial and educationally disabled students.
