Robert Paul Grindle, 84, of North Caldwell

He was a successful attorney and loved the Jersey shore, ballet and theater.

Robert Paul Grindle, Esq., 84, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at his home in North Caldwell, NJ. Visitation will be at Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, on Sunday, April 28, from 2 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Notre Dame Church, North Caldwell, on Monday, April 29, at 10 a.m., followed by the interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Grindle was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Harold and Elma (Bets) Grindle. He was a resident of North Caldwell, NJ for 50 years. In his early years, he loved his home in Ohio. After graduating from high school in 1946, he attended Wittenberg College in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated in 1950 with a bachelor's of arts. He then attended Ohio State University …

John K. Brackmann, 86, of West Caldwell, passed away on April 20, 2013. Visitation will be held at the Farmer Funeral Home (45 Roseland Ave., Roseland) on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.farmerfuneral.com.   Born and raised in Newark, he settled in West Caldwell and attended Grover Cleveland High School. Former North Caldwell councilman, owner of Walker's Pond, died April 10 at age 91.

Elwood Carl “Woody” Walker, 91, of North Caldwell died Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Relatives and friends may visit the family at the Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, on Sunday, April 14, from 2 to 6 p.m. The service will be at the Caldwell United Methodist Church, 8 Academy Road, Caldwell, on Monday, April 15 at 10 a.m., followed by an informal reception at the church.   Born in Schaller, Iowa, Mr. Walker was raised on the farm established by his grandfather. He attended Cornell College, and received a degree in engineering from the University of Colorado. North Caldwell Icon Elwood 'Woody' Walker Dies

The borough recognized Walker’s 90th birthday in 2011 with a proclamation honoring his service to the community.

Story updated Wednesday, at 5 p.m. Former North Caldwell Councilman Elwood “Woody” Walker, considered by many a North Caldwell icon, died Wednesday morning. He was 91. Walker lived in North Caldwell for more than 60 years, serving as a councilman from 1967 to 1972. He also served on the town’s zoning board of adjustment, the Historical Society, the Historic Commission and as a volunteer fireman in the North Caldwell Fire Department. A former member of the North Caldwell Board of Education, he was involved in purchasing the land for Grandview Elementary School, which was built to serve a growing student population. McConnell Remembered as Hero Who Inspired Hope

Mayor Barberio, Rep. Frelinghuysen and servicemembers among those at Parsippany wake; funeral will be in North Caldwell Tuesday.

Parsippany said its farewell to U.S. Army Sgt. Derek McConnell in the township Monday, paying last respects to the soldier who died March 18 of still-unreleased causes. A steady stream of mourners visited the Par-Troy Funeral Home throughout the afternoon and evening as an open-casket viewing was held. Around the room were photo collages showing the many faces of Derek: The wounded warrior; the brand-new (healthy) soldier; the fiance; the son and brother; the boy; the man. Much of the talk at the funeral home centered around the grace and bravery demonstrated by the young man as he dealt with massive health challenges over the two years preceding his death.
