I have lived in this area (Caldwell-West Caldwell) for over 30 years. No matter where I find myselfRead More walking the streets of any of these towns and come across middle school/high school aged kids.....well, let me tell you all, their fowl language is worse then a drunken sailor. I hear them when I go down to CVS in W.Caldwell or the Starbucks; I hear them at the ice cream store in Caldwell on Bloomfield Ave; I hear them when I park my car at Forte's restaurant (they tend to hang out behind Forte's parking lot near the woods); I hear them in Grover Cleavland Park and I hear them while walking my dog through the Prospect Hill Cemetery next to the Middle school. I live across the street from the middle school and I hear then talking and yelling to each other, and their fowl cursing is the worst I have ever heard...and I grew up in the inner city of Jersey City....and I have never heard language like these kids today. It's not just the boys either. These girls today say things to their peers, both boys & other girls, that make me feel embarrassed to hear, and I was in the military for 20 years !! Every parent tells me "not my child....must be some other kids." This is pure denial. I see these kids every day coming out of the middle school, and from my porch I can hear & see kids, girls & boys, with the most angelic faces using curse words that I can not repeat and list here. These same parents are fearful of their kids reading this book out of fear that their children will pick up some bad words???? Give me a break !!! That is like closing the barn door after the horses got out !!!

Because the others will languish in underfunded schools that most people won't care about. I wouldRead More much rather see reform in the public schools so that all children can thrive. Not trying to shortchange good students.
golfer April 18, 2014 at 01:38 am
So factchecker, you're in favor of lowering the common denominator for exceptional students, down toRead More the level of students from well-funded inner-city students, who have less-talented teachers, that simply indoctrinate the kids with WHAT to think, so they can pass a test! Boy, that really makes sense.

@golfer: Please provide proof of your contention that charter school teachers are superior to publicRead More school teachers. Some charter schools have yearly turnover rates approaching 50%. This hardly makes for a stable environment or any kind of continuity. Charters also pay less and many are so desperate for staff, due to their lack of protections, benefits, and in some cases deplorable working conditions, not to mention unqualified administrators, that they will hire anyone who comes in the door. There are good charter schools but there are just as many bad ones as well. Why do you think some of them get shut down? You then cast aspersions on the motives of public school supporters. Frankly you sound like a paid shill for reformists. Or a conspiracy theorist with you "indoctrination" nonsense. Save the insults next time any there's a chance you might be taken seriously.

This one just pisses me off, no Social-get one or get out-. Good for the district. If you are aRead More legal and you pay tax, have a DL ect., then this should be an easy one. F-in liberal BS, lets not hurt anyones feelings.

As a citizen, I have to prove who I am, prove where I live, where I was born in order to get aRead More drivers license. Years ago, I had to prove my kids had their shots, show their SS# and birth certificate to register for school. So why don't foreigners have to prove they are here legally before they reap the benefits of our country? Just asking?

That is why most colleges award Merit Money based upon SAT scores.

If this is true my dog could probably be eligible if he went through the Brick school system.

Schools in general is nothing but fakes. Not even close to accurate. To many reasons to list. YouRead More have to many dishonest people involved in the outcome in changes that shouldn't be. Yes, schools play to make it look one way that is not even close to what it should be. They rig the outcome to make their school look good for certain students who they might have a connection with in some way. You can have students who rank higher in lower level classes that are not even close in comparison that has no business being 2 or 3 in a class.

Hey Joe-90% tax rate existed with a number of signifigant loopholes that resulted in a nominal taxRead More rate in the mid 40s for the highest earners...stop getting your talking points from MSNBC and think for yourself. and even if you took every dollar from the top 10% of earners in this nation, we would still have a deficit...spending is the issue, not revenue....do you get that fact or does your hatred for the wealthy cloud your ability to digest reality...
Joe R March 15, 2014 at 08:51 am
Hey SH, in the 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the effective tax rate was about 51%Read More after the loopholes. Oh, so we don't have loopholes today??!? Ha, ha, ha. The current top marginal tax rate is 39.6% but that's before all the loopholes. The effective tax rate is even lower than 39.6%. JFK eliminated many of the loopholes and reduced the top marginal tax rate to 74%. That works for me.
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 07:02 pm
Joe-I will agree to raise the marginal tax rate to 50%...what programs other than defense do youRead More propose to cut? Exactly none is probably your answer...cutting defense and raising taxes does not get us to a balanced budget...we need to cut spending...you socialists never seem to get that point...and moreover, how about EVERYONE has some skin in the game and has to pay some income tax.... you will never want to cut spending on social programs because then how will you bribe low information voters to win elections?

Tom, I have no problem with cameras. And I believe in school choice. And as I said earlier, I don'tRead More have tenure as a private school teacher. Many of our ideas are not so different...
