The Caldwells Dig Out Of First Snowstorm Of 2014

This is what you need to know on Friday.

The first major snowstorm has come and gone, but subzero wind chills will remain as the Caldwells dig themselves out Friday.

Between 4 and 8 inches of snow blanketed the region Thursday into Friday morning.

The Caldwell-West Caldwell and West Essex School district closed Friday due to the snowstorm. All activities and programs are also canceled.

Public-street parking is prohibited when roads are covered with snow. All three police departments have issued alerts regarding those ordinances, which can be found here: Caldwell PoliceNorth Caldwell Police, West Caldwell Police.

Caldwell municipal offices are closed Friday due to the storm. Offices will reopen on Monday at 8:30 a.m.

Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency in New Jersey Thursday asking residents to "stay off the roads."

The northeastern part of the state remains under a winter storm warning until 1 p.m. on Friday.

The following is a rundown of what you need to know.

Power-Outages And Downed Wires

The storm could cause power outages. Residents are reminded to report outages immediately to PSE&G by calling 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) rather than contacting the police department.
