Dolphins Compete in Swim for Food

Bring donations for West Caldwell swim team collection to Cedar Street pool this week.

The West Caldwell-Caldwell and Madison swim teams are competing in and out of the water this week.

While the Dolphins will swim against Madison this Thursday at , the teams are also going head-to-head in Swim for Food, a fun competition in the North Jersey Summer Swim League to see who can collect the most food for local pantries.

The community can help the Dolphins achieve their 500-pound goal by dropping non-perishable food donations in a box which will be located near the entrance of Cedar Street Pool on Wednesday and Thursday.

During the Thursday night swim meet, the donations will be weighed and the winner will be announced.

“Please spread the word to friends and neighbors that we are looking to help feed the hungry during these hot summer months when donations are down,” stated Patty D’Angelo, a parent volunteer, in a release.

Especially appreciated, she said, are juice boxes, kid-friendly cereal, meals in a can, gravy, peanut butter, tuna fish and low-salt items. Cash donations will also be accepted to be used for the "backpack program," where kids are given food for the weekend when many soup kitchens are closed.
