Summer Camp Sign-ups: Swim Team, Baseball, Softball and More

Here is a rundown of local camps put on by the West Caldwell-Caldwell Recreation Department.

The summer camp season is drawing near and there is certainly no shortage of options in the Caldwells. 

To make life a little easier, here is a list of camps the West Caldwell-Caldwell Recreation Department will offer this summer.

Basketball Camp

Who: Boys, girls entering grades 5 through 9 (West Caldwell-Caldwell residents only)

When: July 8-12 or July 15-19

Where: James Caldwell High School Gym

Sessions, Fees: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm $100.00

9:00 am – 2:00 pm $125.00

Deadline: Friday, June 21

Pickup Baseball

Who: Students in grades 3 through 8

When: July 8 through Aug. 1

Where: Grades 3-4 will play at Richard Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. starting July 9

Grades 5-8 will play at Memorial Park on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. starting July 8. 

Fees: $25

Travel Baseball Tryouts

Who: Boys aged 14 will try out Wednesday, May 29, from 8-9:30 p.m. at the Kiwanis Oval

Boys aged 13 will try out Monday, May 20, from 6-8:30 p.m .at Memorial Park

Boys aged 12 will try out on Sunday, May 19, 6-8:30 p.m. at Memorial Park

Tryouts for boys aged 9, 10 and 11 has yet to be determined. 

Girls aged 12 will try out Saturday, June 8, from 1-3 p.m. at the James Caldwell High School junior varsity softball field

Girls aged 13 will try out Sunday, June 9, from 1-3 p.m. at the James Caldwell High School junior varsity softball field.

Girls aged 14 will try out Tuesday, June 4, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the James Caldwell High School junior varsity softball field.

Fee: The cost for travel baseball and softball is $130.00.

Swim Team

Who: Boys and girls who are members of the West Caldwell Pools aged 6-18, and Caldwell/West Caldwell non-pool members aged 11-18. All participants must be swimmers. First time registrants will be assessed the first day of practice to determine eligibility.

Where: All practices will be held at the Cedar Street Pool in West Caldwell. Practice schedule will be available when registering. 

When: Anticipated start date is the week of June 10.

Fee: $50 for pool members, $100 for non-pool members. Register online at https://register.communitypass.net/westcaldwell or at the Recreation office, 5 Fairfield Ave. For more information, call 973-226-3621.

Special Needs Fun Camp

Who: Pre-K through grade 2

When: July 8-19

Where: Harrison School

Sessions/fees: 10 session for $80

Deadline: Friday, June 28

Math Camp

Who: Students entering grades K-3

Where: The West Caldwell Civic Center, corner of Clinton Road and Bloomfield Avenue.

WhenAugust 19 – 23, 9-11:30 a.m.

Fees:  $165/week

Deadline: Friday, June 28

What: A fun and exciting program that will allow campers to build upon their math skills in preparation for the upcoming school year.  Campers will rotate between centers working on hands on activities that target various math skills, including: patterns, time, money, addition, subtraction, computation and word problems.

Reading Camp

Who: Students entering grades K-3 in September 2012.

Where: The West Caldwell Civic Center, corner of Clinton Rd and Bloomfield Avenue.

When: August 13 – 17, 9-11:30 a.m.

Fees:  $180/week

Deadline: Saturday, June 29

What: It is a fun and exciting program which will allow campers to build on their reading skills in preparation for the upcoming school year.  Campers will rotate between centers working on activities which target various reading and writing skills, including: decoding, comprehension, and written expression. 

Summer Playground

Who: Students in grades K-8

Where: Franciso Park, Westville Pool, Jefferson School and Memorial Park

When: June 25 through Aug. 2, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon

Fees: $125

Deadline: June 15

Tot Lot

Who: Children aged 4-5

Where: Washington School Playground 

When: June 25, to Aug. 2, 8:45- 11:45 a.m.

Fees: $125.00

Deadline: Saturday, June 15
