West Essex Knights Win Super Essex Conference With Win Over Barringer

"I am very happy for our players and our seniors," coach Chris Benacquista said. "They worked very hard and deserve this championship."

The West Essex Varsity Knights Football Team defeated Barringer High School to win the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division this past weekend.

The undefeated Knights now head to the first round of the NJSIAA state championships and will face Orange High School at home. 

"I am very happy for our players and our seniors," Coach Chris Benacquista said. "They worked very hard and deserve this championship."

"We are really looking forward to the playoffs," said Knights Captain Peter Norton, a senior from Essex Fells.

"All of our hard work has paid off and all of the time we have put in and everything we have been working towards-the moment is finally here," he added.


"Our motive from day one has been the State Championship," said Captain Joe Scaglia, a senior from Fairfield.

Captain Matt Thies, of North Caldwell, noted that the team was excited to win the conference and looks forward to the championship. 

"This is what the seniors are looking to do," he said.
