The West Essex Knights 12U youth baseball team has a whole lot of baseball to look forward to this summer.
The 12 and under team comprised of players from Roseland, North Caldwell, Fairfield and Essex Fells will be participating in a baseball tournament over Fourth of July weekend in Cooperstown, N.Y., the team has announced.
This is a “once-in-a-lifetime trip,” the team’s coach, Tom Tsilionis, said in a release. “Experiencing a weekend of baseball with your teammates and coaches is every ballplayer’s dream come true.”
In addition to playing ball and trading pins with top teams from around the country, the players will visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown.
To accomplish their goals this year, the Knights are fundraising and soliciting donations. West Essex apparel is available for purchase at http://shop.weknights.com.
The Roseland Knights and the North Caldwell Knights teams merged in summer of 2012, forming the West Essex Knights 12U youth baseball team.
“Since the merger, the Knights have amounted a 22-3 regular season record (26-5 over-all) and have been finalists both seasons together,” explained Tsilionis. “Because of our recent success, the 2013 spring team is playing in two very competitive leagues. We are looking forward to building on our recent success and transition to the 60/90 major league fields by fall."
The team is managed and sponsored by the Roseland Recreation Boosters Association and plays its home games in Roseland.
