Shabazz Tops Caldwell 67-21 in Second Round of State Tournament
Caldwell girls basketball finishes season with a 16-9 record.
The Shabazz Bulldogs (26-1) showed why they are the No. 1 team in New Jersey basketball Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs displayed tenacious defense and outstanding team offense in defeating the Caldwell Chiefs 67-21 in the second round of the Group 2 Section 2 2012 NJSIAA Tournament played at Malcolm X. Shabazz High School.
Aliyyah Handford led the balanced scoring attack of the Shabazz team by contributing 12 points. Ricshar Benjamin scored 11 points and De'Ashia Jones contributed 10 points.
Caldwell seniors Meredith Weber scored 6 points and Annie Mergner contributed 4 points, both playing hard in the last basketball game of their high school careers. Junior center Ijeoma Ikpe chipped in 5 points with a handfull of rebounds for the Chiefs.
