Caldwell Girls Cross Country Wins Conference Championship

Boys finish strong second in Super Essex Conference meet.

The Caldwell Chiefs girls cross country team took first place at the Super Essex Conference meet Thursday, and the boys team had a strong showing finishing second place overall. 

“We’ve had some great success,” said coach Jodi Longo. “[I’m] very proud of all of our hard-working, determined athletes.”

At the conference meet, Kim Theobald came in first place. Amanda Bettin, Sydney Teterskis and Katie Duca as well as Kim earned 1st team all-division. Jacqueline Mescia, Lyndsay DeNunno and Charlyne Burki earned 2nd team all-division.

The girls compete in the Colonial Division and finished with an overall divisional record of 10-0.

“Our toughest competitor being Bloomfield in which we only beat them by one point in the regular season,” Longo said.

The boys team competes in the Liberty Division and finished second place overall with a regular season team record of 8-1. The team's only loss in the regular season was by five points to Newark Academy

Longo said the boys team “ran their hearts out just like the girls” in the conference championship meet. They were defeated by Newark Academy, which she called a “very strong team.”

Jon Krippahne received 1st team all-division, Matt Meehan and Ryan Slane received 2nd team all-division and Sean Dyer and Austin Muller received honorable mention.
