Caldwell College's Anderson, James Given CACC Women's Basketball Honors

The Caldwell College women's basketball team is now 9-6.

Two Caldwell College women's basketball players were given Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference awards this week. 

Caldwell College senior forward Jeanette Anderson was named the CACC Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week for women’s basketball. 

Freshman forward Alyssa James was chosen the CACC Rookie of the Week.

The duo helped the Cougars extend their winning streak to six with two victories last week.

Anderson, who has been named the conference’s Player of the Week three times and the Defensive Player of the Week twice, averaged 24.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 blocks in wins over Post and Dominican last week.

Anderson also shot 56.2 percent from the field and 80.0 percent from the free throw line, while committing just one turnover. 

In an 89-80 win at Post on Wednesday, Anderson helped Caldwell overcome a 23-point deficit with 26 points, seven boards, two blocks and three steals. She followed that up with 22 points, nine rebounds, five steals and a career-high four blocks in a 77-53 triumph over Dominican on Saturday.

So far this season, Anderson is averaging 21.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest to rank 3rd and 4th in the CACC, respectively.

This is the second CACC Rookie of the Week honor for James, who registered a pair of 15-rebound games while averaging 7.5 points, 3.5 blocks and 1.5 assists over the two wins. 

Against Post, she had 13 points, 15 boards and four blocks. James then tallied two points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in the win over Dominican. Through 16 games, she is averaging a CACC-leading 10.7 rebounds per game.

The Cougars are 9-6 and play at Dominican College on on Jan. 22.
