Students Step Into Principals Shoes for a Day

"Principal for a Day" prizes auctioned off at Caldwell-West Caldwell Education Foundation's Taste of the Caldwells.

Students from Caldwell-West Caldwell's four elementary schools declared Crazy Hair Day and Pajama Day and approved outside lunch when they stepped into their principals shoes recently to redeem their "Principal for a Day" prizes.

The winners of the “Principal for a Day” auction items sponsored by the Caldwell-West Caldwell Education Foundation read to kindergarten and first grade students, enjoyed lunch with the principal, and partook in at least one special activity.

First grader Lauren Geher introduced to both a Pajama Day and lunch outside.

“Having lunch outside was so enjoyable that we think we will make it an annual event,” said Wilson School Principal Scott Keena.

Lunch with the principal in his or her office is one of the highlights of the day, including one or more close friends. This year, principal Keena invited Geher and four friends to lunch in his office, and the six enjoyed their meals while watching an episode of The Little Rascals.

“It reminds me of my childhood,” said Keena. “Watching a show helps to break the ice. We talk about the day and I get to connect with the students in a whole new way.”

At , principal for a day Liam Corliss declared June 1 Crazy Hair Day.

“The entire school came in with fun and creative hairstyles,” said Principal Adam Geher. “It was a fun way to engage the entire school in the day, and instill school spirit day.” Corliss invited three friends to join him and Geher for lunch. Added Geher, “It was a very busy, action-packed day.”

Part of the , the Foundation’s signature fundraising event, the “Principal for a Day” auction brings in additional funds for the schools and adds another element to the event.
