Students Select Oreo Cookie in Mock Election

Jefferson Elementary School students vote for favorite snack.

Caldwell and West Caldwell students went to the polls this November and elected the Oreo cookie as their favorite snack.

Jefferson Elementary School's annual mock election uses a real voting machine provided by Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin.

Students were asked to pick between three candidates, Oreo, potato chips and pretzel sticks. They were invited to create campaigns for their favorites and posters were hung around the West Caldwell school.

Students voted throughout the day and celebrated when the results were announced by Jefferson School Principal Timothy Ayers. Bags of the winning cookies were given to students to take home.

This year's election was rescheduled from Oct. 29 to Nov. 14 because of Hurricane Sandy.
