All three school districts in the Caldwells voted earlier this year to move school board elections to the November general election, a change made possible by a new state law. The school board elections will remain non-partisan.
There will be no vote on school budgets since the new law allows districts to approve a budget without a voter referendum so long as the budget satisfies a mandated 2% cap to the tax levy.
Here's a look at who will be running for school board in the Caldwells.
Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools
Board of Education President Maureen McNish and Board Member Paula Getty are both seeking re-election to the BOE. Tom Adams, a retiring social studies teacher from James Caldwell High School, is also seeking one of the two open seats on the board.
West Essex Regional Schools
There are three seats open on the West Essex BOE, one each in Essex Fells, Fairfield and North Caldwell. None of the incumbents are seeking re-election. Maryadele Wojtowicz, currently a North Caldwell BOE member, is running unopposed for the open North Caldwell seat. Ann Fahey and Philip M. Fiore are both running for the one open Essex Fells seat. No one has filed a petition for the one open Fairfield seat.
North Caldwell Schools
In North Caldwell, Steven Hadley and Maryadele Wojtowicz are not seeking reelection. Each has served as a board member for six years. Two candidates filled out applications for the vacant seats, Jann Skeleton and Marianne Bohrer.
