Water Damage At Middle School Closes 5 Classrooms For Weeks

Caldwell-West Caldwell Superintendent of Schools James Heinegg issued a letter to Grover Cleveland Middle School parents Tuesday about the water break in the school.

Five classrooms at Grover Cleveland Middle School will be off limits for weeks while crews repair water damage caused by a broken heating unit this week.

A water coil in a heating unit, known as a univent, located in a third-floor classroom ruptured before school opened on Monday. The water leaked into that classroom and four addition classrooms, said Superintendent James Heinegg on Monday.

It will take approximately four weeks to repair the damage, announced the superintendent in a press release to parents on Tuesday.

Heinegg added that an "alternative schedule" and classrooms will be provided to those students who normally met in those damaged classrooms, according to the press release.

Due to concerns over the potential for mold to form from the water damage, the superintendent said in the press release the district will have an independent environmental consultant monitor the renovations.

All construction work will also be done while school is not in session, according to the press release.
