- It’s not quite March Madness, but basketball fans are sure to enjoy the Coaches vs. Cancer Benefit Basketball Game at (JCHS). Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. On Tuesday, Jan. 31, 5:30 p.m., the will host Newark Academy (or Belleville High School), and accept donations to the American Cancer Society at the game. There will be a half-time foul shooting contest.
- For a more active role in the fight against cancer, consider joining the team. On Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., in the JCHS cafeteria, the team will hold its Relay for Life Kickoff Party. Last year, the event raised more than $120,000. All interested individuals or teams are invited to attend, and find out more about Relay for Life — what it is, why it is done, and how to get involved. - Take a dip, shoot some hoops, or just hang with friends at the Teen Night. On Saturday, Feb. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m., students ages 11 to 15 are welcome to spend a night out with friends. Open to everyone, no registration is necessary and the event is free! For more information, call 973-228-7665.
- It will be the Giants versus the Patriots in the big game, but there is another major challenge going on throughout the Caldwells this weekend, the Souper Bowl. A youth-led effort to tackle hunger and poverty, the Souper Bowl of Caring uses the excitement of Super Bowl weekend to get the younger generation involved in their local communities. More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: "Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat." Since that day, more than $81 million has been raised for local charities across the country. This Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4 and 5, young adults at , and other religious institutions throughout the Caldwells will collect money and canned goods to help those in need, with most of the donations staying local to help the .

On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2 p.m., at the , CBS Meteorologist John Elliott will discuss the recent series of earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and tornadoes that have wreaked havoc throughout the world.
