Farmival, Mandolins, Baseball, and Reunions Provide Things to Do for Kids of All Ages

Farmers' Market holds 2nd Annual Market Carnival, Mandolin Orchestra visits CPL, Blue Devils hold tryouts, and Class of '61 invites alumni to 50th reunion.

Farmival Carnival

Do you enjoy carnivals? Then, you will love Farmival! On Friday, July 29, from 2 to 7 p.m., during the  normal hours, the Market will feature the second annual , a carnival-like atmosphere complete with games, prizes, special vendors, temporary tattoos, music and even a magician.

Bring the kids along and let them try their luck at the beanbag toss, or they can select a lucky ducky. Winners receive tickets to trade for prizes. There will also be a temporary tattoo station, and Gelotti’s will be on-hand with their town-famous ice cream cart.

Happy that the kids are having fun, but wish there were a few adult prizes? Never fear, there will also be free raffles to win subscriptions to Edible NJ Magazine and special Farmival Day vendors. And, to entertain young and old alike, Professional magician will also be there from 3 to 4 p.m. and from 5 to 6 p.m. His enthusiastic blend of magic and comedy will have you laughing. Corsaro has performed for Fortune 500 companies including Wrigley's, Panasonic, Nestle, and Viacom, as well as top music acts, including Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, and The Milwaukee’s.

So, stop by, buy the week’s fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses and more, and enjoy the Farmival. You are sure to see more than a few friendly faces!

Heat Wave Happenings

If you are tired of being housebound during this July heat wave, consider stopping by the this Wednesday, July 27, at 6:45 p.m., for a musical treat. The  will visit the library to serenade visitors with a taste of Italian mandolin music.

Originally formed in 1941, the Bloomfield Mandolin Orchestra is the last of its kind in N.J. The Orchestra has worked with a variety of mandolin and guitar talents, including Tamara Volskaya, Anatoly Trofimov, and the Russian Carnival Ensemble.

Dedicated to preserving the tradition of mandolin playing, the group welcomes players of all levels to join. Rehearsals, which are open to the public, take place every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the basement of the Bloomfield Civic Center, 84 Broad Street.

The musical performance is free of charge and open to everyone.  No registration required. 

Play Ball

The is putting together competitive travel baseball teams for 8U through 13U levels. Dedicated players that live in Caldwell and West Caldwell who do not play another primary fall sport are invited to try out. Interested participants will compete in the fall 2011 Cerbo National Baseball League, and tryouts are scheduled for August. For program details and information, contact lotti223@aol.com

Happy 50th!

Did you attend both (GCHS/GCMS) and  (JCHS)?  If you were a member of the first class to graduate from the current high school, save the date! The class of 1961 will hold its 50th reunion on Oct. 14-16.

Reunion activities include a Friday night get together at JCHS, a Saturday tour of GCHS/GCMS where the classmates’ began their high school years, attendance at a game, and a get together that includes a buffet dinner, oldies music and dancing at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel. Classmates will get to their goodbyes on Sunday Oct 16.
