C-WC District Cancels School, West Essex Regional Opens Late Wednesday

A winter storm warning for all of New Jersey was in effect until Wednesday morning.

Caldwell-West Caldwell School District has canceled school Wednesday due to the snow.

In addition, West Essex Regional Schools will have a 90-minute delayed opening on Wednesday due to the snow, the district announced late Tuesday night.

Homeroom will begin for students at 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the district.

This is pathetic. The snow has stopped. My road was plowed around 7:30. What could possibly be the reason to waste another school day on non existent snowy roads. Are people really this afraid of a little snow? I fear for my child growing up in a world of ridiculousness and fear over nothing. Learn to drive people this is sad.

I personally think that school should be closed. There is a foot of snow and more coming during the night. Not all roads are plowed and not all side walks shoveled. Many people will have problems clearing their own personal driveway and side walk by the time school starts. In regard to the last comment, that is your opinion and you have no authority to judge people based on how they feel about driving in snow and ice.

If you can't drive stay home. It's ridiculous to cancel school when the snow has stopped. If you can't clear your car off by 10 am then you must have a really big car and driveway. Some people need to work and all these useless snow days are not easy to get off for. We are becoming such wimps its scary. And for the schools to closer because they are afraid some kid is gonna slip and fall the sue just shows the pathetic mind set of people these days. I've been out of school 20 years and we never had off unless it snowed all night long and was still snowing in the morning. Now they cancel if the wind blows too hard. Do other parents forget going to school in those conditions or did everyone turn soft.

We have gotten soft, but factor in the temperature also. We have become safety paranoid I know. But these kinds of days are planned for with snow days on the calendar...and today is a good one for that. We are also a very litigious society and a case of frost bite would be a law suit for the district for sure. Sad but true.

The school has snow days, and we are not turning soft and don't insult people by saying "Learn to drive people". It's all about safety and people that need to work hard to prepare the school and roads to get there. Do you ever think about the bus company and their drivers? they are people just like you and me and they also have families. Let's be more caring about one another. The school has snow days and I think it was proper to close the school under the circumstances. To keep the children and the staff safe. By the way, the roads were terrible this morning. G.T. maybe you should go out and try it for yourself.

Too many school closings! When are the children going to learn? No joke, children in Europe go to school the whole winter even if the snow is higher than the child and frost is biting on the skin. No school buses, either! There are No so called “snow days” on their calender. It is a nonsense with all those snow days, days off, delay openings and early dismissals.

Maria I did go out I am not afraid of snow. I know how to drive and stay in control of my vehicle. Thank you wcmom and Janet at least there are a few people who still get it. I heard it might snow tues maybe they should cancel now just to be safe. When they use up the 3 or 4 days and have to shorten other vacations or extends school don't cry about it your the reason

Ps. You're. Also the towns need to take some of the blame for some streets being poorly plowed. I saw then driving around with their plows up
