Caldwell-West Caldwell Reports Smooth Opening Day

School district welcomes 26 new staff members, 2,600 students.

Superintendent James Heinegg said Monday aside from a few technical glitches the opening of the new school year on Sept. 5 went “very smoothly."

The district's approximately to find improvements to their school buildings and grounds, from a renovated gymnasium at the high school to all new windows and a refurbished auditorium at the middle school.

The Board of Education conference room at Harrison School also has a new look. The walls have been painted two tones of blue and new flooring includes "CWC BOE" lettering in a circle in front of the board's conference table.

The Chiefs mascot in the gym was painted by Caldwell High School Principal Kevin Barnes, according to Heinegg. He said Barnes volunteered his time and spent several days after work over the summer creating the blue logo over the new bleachers.

Heinegg said at Monday's Board of Education meeting that a “handful of computer glitches” the district encountered the first week have mostly been straightened out and the district is making efforts to prevent them in the future.

Before the meeting, the board held a reception to welcome 26 new staff members to the district.

“It’s safe to say they are an enthusiastic and excited bunch of professionals,” Heinegg said.

The superintendent stopped in classrooms throughout the district last week and said he was pleased to see teachers jumping right into instruction. He said one student commented to him that it was the second day and he had already had two quizzes.

Where can I drop off "BOX TOPS". I don't have any children in the West Caldwell schools. I would hate to throw them away if they could benefit the Caldwell School District.

Very impressed with the renovated bleachers seats in the high school gymnasium. Hopefully the Baseball field bleachers will get the same.
