5th-Grade Class Raises Funds for Sick Boy

The graduating class at Washington Elementary School donated more than $2,700 to the Make A Wish Foundation.

The 2013 fifth-grade class at Washington Elementary School helped make a wish come true for a 12-year-old boy suffering from Hodgkin’s Disease.

The graduating class raised $2,780 this past year through a flower sale on Valentine’s Day and a dance-a-thon. The 5th-graders chose the Make A Wish Foundation as their charity foundation to support as part of their community service project.

The money was used to send a 12-year-old Wellington and his family to Disney World.

Wellington, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease, loves the movie “The Avengers," the color blue, the baseball player Derek Jeter, and the music group Maroon 5.

When Make-A-Wish volunteers visited with Wellington and his family, they asked him that magical question, “If you could have one wish, what would it be?” He wished to go to Disney World to have fun on all of the awesome rides and to meet all of his favorite characters!

This summer, Wellington and his family will be whisked away to Disney World in Florida, where they will be staying at Give Kids the World Village — a special area near Disney, reserved specifically for "wish children."

While staying there, Wellington and his family will be treated like VIPs, which include amenities such as 24-hour ice cream service, character meet-and-greets, having Disney characters read bedtime stories, as well as being able to bump to the front of every line at all of the Disney parks with a special button and their park hopper passes!
