Primary For Late Sen. Frank Lautenberg's Seat Is Tuesday

The voting booths will open Tuesday for a special primary for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Frank Laugtenberg.

Voters will choose among four Democrats and two Republicans who are vying the top post. Polls will be open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. 

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34), and U.S. Rep.'s Frank Pallone (D-6th) and Rush Holt (D-12th) are running in the Democratic primary. Alieta Eck and Steven Lonegan are running in the Republican primary. 

Lautenberg, the last remaining World War II veteran in the senate, died June 17 morning. He was 89.

Soon after, Gov. Chris Christie called for a special primary election to be followed by an election Oct. 16. The current Senate term expires in January 2015.

Christie, much to the consternation of candidates and critics, decided to hold a special election instead of scheduling it during the November election. Primary and special elections could run the state an estimated $12 million apiece.

The following is a list of voting locations. 

Caldwell:  

• District 1: Lincoln School, at 18 Crane St. 
• Districts 2, 3: Caldwell Fire Department, at 30 Roseland Ave. 
• Districts 4, 5, 6:Grover Cleveland Middle School, at 36 Academy Road. 
• District 7: Caldwell College, 120 Bloomfield Ave. 

• All four districts vote at Nortre Dame Church, at 359 Central Ave., Caldwell. 

• District 1, 2, 7: Washington Elementary School, at 201 Central Ave.
• District 3, 4, 8: Harrison Elementary School, at 104 Gray St.
• District 5, 6, 9: Jefferson Elementary School, at 85 Prospect St.
