Postage Stamps Will Cost You More in 2014
The U.S. Postal Service's regulator approved the increase of about 6 percent across all mail services.
If you're someone who uses a lot of stamps, you'll want to start stocking up on Forever stamps before prices rise.
On Jan. 26 the cost of a first-class postage stamp will rise to $.49 from $.46, according to the Chicago Tribune.
A book of first-class one-ounce stamps will now cost $9.80. Forever Stamps purchased before the increase will still be valid for all one-ounce letters.
The U.S. Postal Service’s regulator approved the increase of about 6 percent across all mail services. However, according to the Tribune the rates are not expected to become permanent and will likely end in less than two years.
The rate increase is supposed to boost the U.S. Postal Service’s revenue by $1.8 billion in a year to recoup from losses suffered in 2008 and 2009, said the Tribune.
Post offices are located at 10 Park Ave. in Caldwell, 155 Clinton Road in West Caldwell and 297 Runnymede Road in Essex Fells. If you're planning to stock up before the clock strikes midnight and ends 2013, be aware that the post office will have shortened hours on New Year's Eve.
