Caldwell Republicans Endorse Two Candidates for Council

Republicans will go up against Democrats Maureen T. McNish and Grace Kerrigan, who announced their candidacies in February.

The following is a press release issued by the Caldwell Republican Party.

The Caldwell Republican party kicked off the campaign season on June 25 by endorsing incumbent Councilman Tom O’Donnell and newcomer Pasquale "Pat" Capozzoli for Caldwell council.

O’Donnell said his time on the council has been governed by a simple approach: “I wanted to pave the streets and lower taxes in this town. My first chance at the budget I helped deliver a zero percent increase and driving around town you can see the many streets that have been fixed and many more to come."

The flower shop was crowded with well wishers and supporters of these candidates. The event included brief speeches by both men.

Capozzoli said he is "not a politician.  I am doing this for the residents of Caldwell and my family as I plan to be in Caldwell for a very long time."

There are two seats on the Caldwell Council up for election this November which carry three-year terms. While O'Donnell is running to retain his seat, Councilman John Coyle will not seek reelection.

Republicans will go up against Democrats Maureen T. McNish and Grace Kerrigan, who announced their candidacies in February.

O'Donnell was elected in 2010 and has served as chairman of the Budget, Public Safety and the Community Center committees.

Capozzoli lives in District 7 and has been an advocate to improve issues in that area, such as recurring electrical outages. He also has an interest in the recreation programs because he has three sons in the public schools and coaches several sports.

Former Councilman Pete Murray is the Republican's campaign manager and Councilman Rich Hauser is the campaign treasurer.
