'Obama's Failing Agenda' Tour Hits Montclair Thursday

Republican group, Americans for Prosperity, bringing the bus tour to Montclair, they say, to give "a voice to the millions of Americans who oppose the policies" of the president.

Election season is in full swing and Americans for Prosperity, a free-market organization, has announced that its "Obama's Failing Agenda" bus tour will stop in Montclair on Thursday, Sept. 20.

The bus tour will be at Montlcair State University at 7 p.m.

The conservative group said in a press release that activists will gather together to bring "grassroots pressure to oppose the president’s agenda of runaway spending and debt, a government health care takeover, and job-destroying regulations which have resulted in the worst economic recovery in nearly a century, including 43 straight months of unemployment above 8%."

Luke Hilgemann, a spokesman for Americans for Prosperity, said President Obama’s policies don’t make sense for middle-class Americans.

“We’ve had 43 straight months of unemployment above 8 percent and $16 trillion dollar debt,” Hilgemann said. “His public policies are failing and we are doing our best to educate people on those policies. They are not the shining stars they were thought to be.”

Hilgemann said the national bus tour will introduce the Americans for Prosperity's jobs agenda to the public. He said people will be asked to sign a petition to tell Obama that the country needs a new direction.

“We’re focusing on the issues,” Hilgemann said. “And we’re choosing not to get involved with the candidates because the issues are more important than their campaign. We want to get back to the policies that made America great, and continue to push for economic freedom.”

After Montclair, the bus tour will hit stops in Arkansas, Idaho and Missouri.

Officials with Americans for Prosperity have billed the tour as an issue advocacy effort. However, they said in a press release that they aren’t advocating for the success or defeat of any candidate for public office.

But The Huffington Post has reported that Americans for Prosperity is launching a $25 million ad campaign in support of Mitt Romney’s presidential candidacy next week. The article said the group has already spent $15 million on ads attacking President Obama.
