Memorial Park Project Moves Ahead

West Caldwell could be ready to break ground on improvements to Memorial Park on March 1, Councilman Stanley Hladik said Tuesday night.

Hladik, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Committee, said he expects the project to go out to bid in early February and to be “shovel ready” by the start of March, if the weather permits.

The first phase of improvements to the township park includes replacing playground equipment, installing new fences and adding lighting to the baseball fields.

Hladik said he expects the new playground to be ready in early spring, and the fields to be completed in time for the upcoming baseball season.

Other Council News 

• Borough Administrator Jock Watkins said plans are moving forward to replace water mains on Richard and Franklin avenues this winter.

• State Sen. Joe Pennachio (R-26) is expected to attend the Feb. 5 meeting of the council. The council discussed having the public meeting start at 6:30 p.m. before the regularly scheduled council conference meeting. (Date and time need to be confirmed.)

• Councilman Richard Otterbein advised residents experiencing flu symptoms to visit their doctors immediately. Otterbein advised against going to an emergency room, saying area hospitals have been inundated with patients who could have been seen by their primary care physicians.
